The Tournament:

A French national tournament has been held since 1891. For some time it was open only to French citizens, or members of French clubs. In 1925, it was opened to international amateurs, and in 1968 it was the first Grand Slam event to go "open," allowing amateurs and professionals to compete. It has always been played on clay. In recent years there has been great controversy over plans to either expand the current facilities, or relocate the event. Relocation seems to be off the cards, but the expansion plans are still being debated and fought in the courts.

The Players:

Turning back the clock, the man to beat this year is again, Rafael Nadal, here seeded 4. Defending champ Novak Djokovic (#2) is looking for redemption after a mediocre post-Nole Slam year. #1 Murray is defending final points, but has had nothing to say for himself so far this year. Much is being made of #NextGen Rome winner Sasha Zverev, and many have eyes on Dominic Thiem. 2015 champion Stan Wawrinka is also on the short-list.

About the City

Paris is one of the most charismatic and romantic cities in the world. It is an art mecca, a gastronomic destination, and the crossroads of Europe. It is the City of Light, softly beautiful in its gardens, monuments and boulevards, and hard-edged, in it's blue-collar neighborhoods, it's banlieue. Go to the top of the hill at Sacre Coeur at sunset and watch the lights come up. Also, sit in a cafe in a quiet neighborhood, like the Marais, and watch the world go by.

People just don't give a flying fu€k about the draw, do they?
Not a single post and the draw has been out for an hour or two. I am disappointed in you blokes.
At first glance the draw looks somewhat boring, especially with no Roger.
Will there be a draw challenge? I want to post predictions.

Delpo could pull out (back problems) and according to the Independant Murray could have shingles again (bad luck for him)

Again Muzz with shingles? it would be weird because until I know supposedly you can get it once in your life

Yeah, I've never heard of anybody getting shingles twice either.

Del Potro (if fit) is a big third round obstacle for Muzz. Delpingles rather than shingles might cause him more grief.

Shingles can recur, especially if the attack has been severe. The virus remains there in a dormant state if the person is lucky. But it can reactivate and does so in about 30% of cases.

I posted in the early talk thread. I am disappointed that Thiem landed in Novak's quarter. He has a match up problem with Novak and further Novak would play himself into form at RG. So, Novak would win against Thiem and this would prevent us from seeing the much anticipated Rafa-Thiem match. But, Novak will lose to Rafa in SF and Rafa will probably play Stan in the final.

Yes, it can occur more than once but it's very unusual. I've never had it but the people I know that went through they have not got it anymore . But truly everyone is different and hope Muzz doesn't go through it again, I hear it's very painful

Shingles or Not, Sir Andy is definitely not reaching QF. Sasha is waiting for him in R16, if he is not already taken out by Klizan or JMDP.

Tignor jinxes Rafa . I agree with almost everything that he says. But, I don't see Kei winning the firs quarter. It will probably be Sasha.

Odds for winning RG after the market had time to digest the draw.

1. Rafa 10/11
2. Novak 4
3. Stan 14
4. Andy 17
5. Thiem and Sasha 18 each.

All the rest are 66 or worse.
