Sheesh, how soon they forget Carlos won his 1st Oz Slam with a new coach to start the year….. ; )I'm a bit late to the show, but that's quite an upset. Of course Korda is the type of player who on a good day can beat really good players. Too bad those days are super rare, as he has the talent to be a top 10 player, imo. But I'm of two minds about Alcaraz's loss. On one hand, his Sunshine Double results this year are almost exactly the same as last. After Miami last year, he went on an absolute tear, reaching nine finals in a row and winning seven of them, and of course winning three of the next four Slams.
On the other, his play the last two tournaments reminds us that he has a tendency to lose focus and/or be somewhat undisciplined - at least for short spells. I think 2025-26 Carlos, which may be peak Carlos, has seen only very short dips. But I do wonder if 2025 is about as good as he's going to get. It is plenty good; by my assessment, it is still one of the 25 best seasons of the Open Era (late last year I was playing with a top 50 seasons of the Open Era ranking, but never pinned it down; I had Carlos' 2025 in the #20-25 range (I had Jannik's 2025 in the same range, with his 2024 a bit higher in the 15-20 range). But he hasn't (yet) shown the even dominance over a full year that you can see in the 5-10 best seasons of Open Era history.
Jannik has a great record against left handed players and hasnt lost against them for over 2 yearsSinner must be happy to seal this match in 2 sets. Michelsen played great today and pushed Sinner, but failed in some crucial moments.
I am overly impressed with Landaluce. Korda was playing great tennis, he just kept himself in the match. His serve is very good, and the forehand can be lethal. Very fluid motion that simply destroys any floating ball. He punished the only weakness Korda had today, which is the second serve. He used his height to attack Korda's kick serve, which is far from great, from both wings.
Do you think Sebs lower back problem in the match had a negative effect as he was playing so well in the 1st set he had the physio out a couple of times for treatmentI am overly impressed with Landaluce. He was indeed playing great, and yes, it could have affected him. His second serve was particularly soft, but it was not great in the Alcaraz match either, so it seems to me that's his weakest link.Do you think Sebs lower back problem in the match had a negative effect as he was playing so well in the 1st set he had the physio out a couple of times for treatment
Sebs second serve has always been an area that he has needed to work on, Seb when he defeated Alcaraz didnt have any issues with his back, sad to say his body always seems to let him down a pattern thus far in his career, I am not taking away the win from Landaluce at all, he has a good solid all round game, great fhand and bhand. Landaluce has been at Rafa's academy since he was 14 yo.He was indeed playing great, and yes, it could have affected him. But on the second set Landaluce was playing great tennis, and even when Korda had match point I thought that the Spaniard was the better player in court (at that moment). When Korda missed the first serve I was pretty sure what was coming next.
Anyway, mark my words, Landaluce is a future #1. I will be more than happy to eat my words if he turns out to be a complete flop.
Huh? How am I being tough on Alcaraz?Sheesh, how soon they forget Carlos won his 1st Oz Slam with a new coach to start the year….. ; )
Tough crowd on this forum
that he loses even one match! He's just not going to win them all! He'll have some interesting losses! It'll start happening w/ Sinner! Perfection has its limits; Djokovic proving that after 2015-16! He was almost DONE, but eventually came back strong in the Summer of 2018! I doubt we'll see anything like that in the future; definitely not me as I approach 70!

You lost me at MSN/CNN...like, who does that? have you lost a bet or something?OMG, was glancing at the Landaluce/Lehecka match! Turned away to watch a segment of MSNow & CNN only to return w/ Martin still serving in the 3rd game! And we thought it was all about stalling, toweling off, & pulling their shorts out of the butts! The points & games are interminably long in all matches! As I've said in the past, I don't think you'll have the longevity of the Big 3 after going thru so much just to get thru a match, much less multiple tournaments in a row! I have to laugh as people heep such praise on Carlos when he wins, then are literally shocked tothat he loses even one match! He's just not going to win them all! He'll have some interesting losses!
