God of Cricket Retires. Will God of Tennis follow suit.

For those of you who are uninitiated Sachin Tendulkar, holder of multiple
records in Cricket including 100 centuries (ODI and Tests put together) has
announced his retirement after the 200th test match appearance.

Incidentally he retires in Nov. 2013 exactly 24 years after he started. That is
a long time playing a sport. From 16 years young to 40 years old.

Here is one of various articles after his announcement.

Great player. Definitely Top 3 Bats of all time.

I thought the only debate was between Sachin and Bradman as for the
GOAT batsman. Who is the other one in your top three?

Lara? The guys records are phenomenal.

Tendulkar was a giant though. A few truly great cricketers have retired in the last few years, and of them I'd place him and Warne as good as anybody...

I would have included Lara as the third, but Tendulkar has put light between the two and I'd probably go along with GSM that's it's really between Tendulkar and Bradman.

The following article is on comparing Don Bradman and Sachin Tendulkar.
Bradman's average of 99.xy is really amazing and probably untouchable. Other
than that Sachin has surpassed Bradman in every relevant statistic such as
total runs, total matches, number of centuries etc. But in double centuries and
triple centuries, Bradman beats Tendulkar.

Also, the consistency of Sachin over a period of 24 years and over three
different forms of cricket is certainly amazing.

Apart from the numbers, there are also intangible elements such as
style and elegance. I tend to feel that Bradman beats Sachin on the
intangibles.

Bradman was able to achieve a high average because he played less.
If you play more, the average is bound to become less.

I am leaning towards Bradman, but am really torn between the two.

However, there is no question that these two are a class apart from other batsmen
such as Lara, Gary Sobers, Sunil Gavaskar, Vivian Richards etc etc.

p.s. I don't want to compare Shane Warne to Sachin as Shane is a bowler and Sachin
is a batsman. However, I do want to quickly point out that Mutthiah Muralidharan of
Srilanka has surpassed Shane Warne.

Very sad but the time had come for him to go . As an Indian I am gutted , I was born after he started playing so it will be new for me to imagine cricket without him . All our news reporting just him

Guys just want to know , what was your favourate Tendulkar innings and moment ?

As an Indian I enjoyed that 98 against Pakistan in the world cup 2003 and that 100 in chennai just 2 weeks after 26/11

We saw the end of the Indian big 5 in the last 5 years , the retirement of the Aussie team of the 90s and 00s which I rate as one of the best teams of all time and lucky to have witnessed them though I hated their domination at that time.

Also we saw the retirement of the 2 best spin bowlers ever in Warne and Murali. Definately the 2 bowlers I will pick in any test team

The fact that there are only 9 posts in this thread (and that too only by
four different people) clearlys means tennis frontier members from the Asian
Continent (like tennisville) are very few, if any. If this thread were from an
asian sports blog site, this thread would have got clearly overboard with
millions of posts.

My goat team and your goat team has six players (bolded above) in common.
That is a majority.

But, I have more in common with Britbox.

How could you fail to include Sunil Gavaskar (and you are from India).
Well, I guess you are too young to have seen him in action. He is a class
opener.

I forgot my main question. Although I appreciate that you shared your
personal goat team with me, I would like to find out whether there is a
goat team created by so called experts (unlike you and me, who are mortals).
If you could find such a team, I would appreciate if you could post it.

Todays the last test match

I did not include Gavaskar because I went for a tried and tested partnership which succeeded against all the teams ;)

You are right. As a pair Greenidge and Haynes are good. As an individual opener
Gavaskar is better than either one of them.

The wisden's XI is clearly biased towards England Players. I think even britbox would
agree on that.

Gavaskar is just class. They showed glimpses of his last test innings for India and he was superb,he scored 96 while everybody around him could not score 50 in either innings of the test :clap

Also taking on those legendary west indian bowlers without a helmet is really marvelous :clap
