Hamad Medjedovic:
IMG_4703.jpeg

“Novak Djokovic has been helping me out financially. Giving me whatever I need for my career. He covered it all. He just helped me out when I needed it and is still helping me out in all types of ways. I’m glad he’s there for me.”

“Would you believe who was the first to congratulate me on my title – Novak. When I picked up my phone, I saw his voice message lasting more than one minute. He is a legend because he is always available for advice.”

Medjedovic’s dad told Sportal: “Novak is really trying hard for Hamad. In all ways… financially, mentally and socially. I remember a conversation with Novak. We specifically talked about the steps in Hamad’s career. I pinched myself during that conversation to convince myself that all this was happening. He was giving me ideas, about what to do about Hamad, and I remember saying to him: ‘Nole, I’m sorry, but it all costs money!’ He continues, suggests me a coach, talks about how we will do, what we will do and adds, ‘It’s up to Hamad to train, I’ll do the rest!’ I tell him again: ‘Nole, it costs money!’ We did not spend a dime, and believe me, that is not a small amount in the world of tennis, on the contrary. Imagine, the best player in the world is calling my kid to work together in the preseason, it is like Messi or Ronaldo telling you: ‘Let’s play some football’ or ‘Let me know if you need anything’. These kinds of things are rare in today’s world, but thank God, there are still people who don’t care only about money, but about the human side of things.”

“Then Novak told me, ‘Edo, I don’t do this for money! I have a place where I earn money. Simply, my role and my task is to help. What kind of person would I be if I didn’t help children who deserve it, who love tennis.’”

Djokovic spoke about Medjedovic at Wimbledon earlier this year:

“It was phenomenal – winning his first Challenger title coming from qualies is a huge result & I congratulated him… His jump in the rankings (Medjedovic was #259 in the world at the time) will mean a lot for the future. I have a lot of friends who are sort of stuck in that second tier of tennis – between Futures and 250s – it is hard to break through, but Hamad is now close to playing qualifiers for Grand Slam tournaments.”

Medjedovic started the year ranked #255. He is now ranked #107 in the world.

It looks like the effort and money Novak has put into helping him and his family is paying off. ❤️ #NovakDjokovic

Neat article. Thirty-six and he is still motivated. It’s the end of the year and he’s only played Paris since winning the USOpen. He should be fresh and ready for Turin.

The fact that Novak is never injured helped his career a lot and when I think about it, it's just crazy. He should have issues with something on his body by now, most of the other guys of the same age are worn out already, they have tons of body issues, but not Novak and this fact that he is still able to last and play injury free is giving him so many opportunities to win.

I mean he had that thing with elbow in 2017, he had some surgery then, but apart from that he is playing injury free his whole career. He is a perfect player in that regard, the way he managed to maintain wear and tear on his body and play for so long.

I'm cautious about what I post on the fans' threads, but it is true that Novak has been lucky in his lack of injury throughout his career. I will say, credit to him for the endless stretching, which I do think mitigates injury. And clearly he has a huge commitment to his diet and training. But still, a certain amount is the luck of the body you're given. No amount of stretching could have prevented Del Potro's unfortunate, life-long wrist issues. Anyway, this is why it gets irritating when Novak claims injury, then seems to go on as if nothing ever happened.

It was something as a fan to hear Courier and Kyrgios extolling the Djoker. No passivity, not tentative shotmaking. Excellent quality.

On another thread, i mentioned that maybe Novak was wondering if his ‘best’ was still able to match up against the young guns today. It does.
