I think it is worth noting that the prize money for the women's side, in the co-ed event is $6,381,672. Yes, it is a Premier event, and the men's is "only" a 500, but the prize money for the men is more than $2 Million less. $4,280,219. Just saying.

The prize money for Shanghi an ATP 1000 is slightly under $6,000,000. So, even compared to that the women in Beijing earned a lot.
Not sure what is the reason. Perhaps because it is a premier mandatory and there are only 4 of them and unlike the 8 mandatory masters tourneys in ATP.
