^ Yeah that makes it even more incredible. I know he didn't have to go through Murray but no one could say he had an easy path to get to the final and then of course facing Nadal once he got there was not the kind of reward he was hoping for.

On top of being the first one in 35 years to beat 4 top 10 players to win a slam, he was also the first since Gaudio at the 2004 French to win three 5 set matches to take the title. It was an incredible effort all around.

Just watched the match again (remember I wasn't really able to bring myself to watch it live). Roger's comment at the trophy celebration... urging Rafa to stay in the game. Was that ever in doubt? Maybe we should be talking about Rafa sticking at it more than Roger?

The former tennis legend Mats Wilander believes it would be very emotional to see Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal playing a Grand Slam final against each other again, but believes that their rivalry is finished.


'It would be very beautiful to see them in a final again, but it would be beautiful to see John Lennon and Elvis Presley singing together again but they cannot. So that's why I say that it would be fantastic to see new faces', Wilander told DPA Deporters.

'Those two players already played great finals and I don't need to watch another one. I don't want it. We need new faces, people who never lived such situations. Nervous players, who will have to overcome nerves and play the best in tennis in their life. Also, Federer and Nadal are very far away from this achievement. If they play the next match thinking to win the title, then they don't win it. Because they never won thinking like this. Now everyone asks themselves if Roger can win his 18th Major, if Rafa can comeback to win... they don't play for it, but because they love the sport and to compete.'

Hey Mats,

I idololized you and especially Borg as a kid, but sometimes you really say some dumb things in your role as commentator and critic. I ask you who would you like to see play out in a GS final ? Roger-Rafa or another plain old boring Djokovic-Murray final?
LOL and that comment re. Elvis and John Lennon duet was plain dumb, as EP was a real singer but with limited skill as a musician and composer while Lennon was a musician and songwriter (one of the all time greatest) but limited skill as a vocalist.
