Billie Jean King Cup News,

Jess Pegula and Taylor Townsend sent the USA into the SFs for the first time since 2001 beating Kazakhstan 2-1 on Thursday. Pegula and Townsend defeated Putintseva and Rybakina 62 76(1) in the deciding doubles.
The US will play GBR in the SFs on Saturday

Due to rain all of Friday's QF marches at the Korea Open have been cancelled and hopefully will be played on Saturday 20th September.

Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini triumphed in the deciding doubles against Ukraine 62 63 Kostyuk/Kitchenok
Italy have become the first nation to reach three consecutive BJK Cup finals since Czechia in 2016. Theu will face either GBR or USA for the title on Sunday

Jess Pegula and Emma Navarro both won their single matches in 3 sets
USA into first final since 2018 where they will play the defending champions Italy on Sunday

Italy defeated USA 2-0 to complete their successful title defence

That's a poor showing from the US squad. Emma is ranked higher and should have at least got it to 3 sets. Jess plays better when she is ahead like yesterday. Emma won the first match and all she had to do was win the 2nd match and even then it went 3. Jess is not a closer. I wouldn't send her out there with the title on the line. What was wrong w/ putting Taylor in against Elisabeth

That is why I love BJK Cup and Davis Cup, you can put a lower ranked player on for their country and they rise to the challenge I have seen that time and time again, the Italians are a tough bunch to crack, and I suspect they would have won the doubles if it came down to it.

Main draw begins on Wednesday September 24. Doubles will begin 2 days later.

Coco Gauff is the defending champion who defeated Karolina Muchova in the 2024 final.
Aryna Sabalenka has withdrawn citing a minor injury she sustained in the USO
Iga Swaitek will lead the field, Gauff, Anisimova, Andreeva, Keys Pegula, Paolini, Zheng, playing her first tournament since Wimbledon ( had elbow surgery). Rybakina, Badosa is also returning, Osaka and Victoria MBoko

Late Withdrawal, Linette withdrew so Andresscu now plays a Q Bondar. Vekic is drawn against Q Bucsa

Elina said its about being ready to fight and give it your all,right now she is not simply at the level mentally or emoitionally
