Indeed it is. And no matter how cruel, the runner-up is asked to make a speech during the trophy presentation.

Here is an article with a 36-second clip, which contains the whole of her speech. It also mentions that she was basically phoning it in in the end, and the tennis world is not pleased with her.

She showed up salty at the trophy ceremony and too emotional. Now she is doing the Sabalenka and she issued a statement after the media backlash.

Osaka was Vickys tennis idol growing up and she didnt have the decency to recognize her in her speech, very unsportsmanlike

Breaking News,
Stefano Vukov, Elena Rybakina's coach has had his suspension lifted after appealing the WTA's decision
Meaning he will be back with Elena ASAP, as far as I am concerned they were in a relationship together

Also Amanda Anisimova who was crushed in the Wimbledon final had the decency to congratulate Iga Swiatek on her victory, Amanda has also battled her own mental demons.

Rick Macci, who worked with Venus and Serena Williams as teenagers, when they first moved to Florida says its probable the Williams sister will take a US Open wild card and reform their life long partnership in Flushing Meadows

Source. tennisnow.com
Recently I have watch 2 videos of Serena in practice, not saying this was for her doubles return at the USO, she also said she still misses tennis,
Quite frankly with all her business interests these days, having a practice hit is also good way of staying in shape

Although I like Venus, and she’ll be a draw, I think this wild card is a bit of a stretch, to be typically polite about it..

I still think, at this stage in her career, Venus could be a top doubles player. Kind of like Hsieh. I wish she would go down that path instead. It would be more interesting seeing her competing deep in doubles tournaments, instead of bowing out in early rounds of singles tournaments.

Venus is a former USO champion and also she is playing in the mixed doubles this year at the USO, so being a former champion at the USO they cant snub her, and she was also given wild card into Cincy this year

It’s not a snub, it’s a practical and fair use of the wild cards..

I agree. There should either be a senior circuit, or a lifetime cap on wild cards. Once or even twice is fine, but players like Wawrinka and Venus can't keep using their Championships from several years ago to get a wild card every year, and at the expense of a young, up-and-coming player, who could use that valuable experience.

Maybe I didnt phrase it properly, being a former USO champion she is entitled to a wild card
Now, I’m not saying you’re wrong, in fact you could be right, but I can’t find anything that confirms this…

Sorry for the delay as I was watching Janniks match in Cincy
I did further research, Venus hasnt played at the USO for 2 years, she earned her wild card based on a reciprocal agreement between the USTA and Tennis , where wild cards between the USO and AO are exchanged

Thanks for that. It’s one they bent over backwards for. I mean, it might be great for fans but I think it might also be very messy and brief - and a wasted opportunity for a talented youngster, like she was…

Well Venus does attract 'Bums On Seats" even as a 45 year youngster:) also the big rumor is that both the Williams sisters will ask for a wild card into the Ladies Doubles at the the USO this year, tickets will be sold out if that happens, as the sisters have won 2 USO doubles titles together
Also Venus is engaged and will probably get married towards the end of the year, though her fiance has encouraged her to play this year
