I know you're not a bot. They aren't going to suspend the match because someone lost conditioning.
Exactly. There are rules, so matter how sad this is. They have lights on Centre Court, and could have played 2.5 more hours, I think you said.

He couldn't have gone on. He couldn't even lift his arm fully to shake hands with the umpire, though he valiantly gave him his right hand. This must take some time to heal. I hope he'll be fit for at least a tune-up before the US Open. I had realized how many of the recent Majors he's had to retire from.
His injuries of late are mounting sad to say, it will take some time to heal, he has done the right thing by retiring, he isnt a spring chicken anymore

Ben's match was suspended at an earlier time than this. If a guy is down 2 sets and 4-5 can get to sleep on it (and didn't really deserve it), Grigor should be at least allowed the opportunity to see if he can give it a go tomorrow. If not, I'd be okay with a retirement. But I absolutely hate having another 99 Philippoussis if it can at all be avoided.
Different circumstances. Ben was on court 2 where there is no roof. They played as long as they could. The umpire called it because the cameras and technology that operate the electronic line calling cannot function properly without the right amount of light.

They aren't going to make special rules because someone is injured. They closed the roof at the end of the 2nd set. They had 2.5 hours of playing time before the curfew. They weren't going to stop before 11pm. This is more about you saving face because you all but had Bean cast out of the tourney.

Sinner got very lucky. Could he have figured it out and turned the match around sure, but it still is a brutal way of earning the win.

What a rough blow for Grigor. I am starting to think he should consider retirement. His conditioning seems to be really poor. He has had a rough history of retirement in majors of late.

5 consecutive majors Grigor has now retired in, the first anyone has done in the Open Era

I don't agree w/ Andy there. It gets dark a few minutes earlier every night. Better to close the roof at the end of the set instead of the middle because of darkness. Besides, this isn't all about the player seeing the ball, as I mentioned before the ELC technology needs the right amount of light to call the lines. Remember, there are no more lines people.

Martina used to say sometimes you need luck to win a major because in the end, you still have to beat a lot of people.

Remember what happened to Rafa when they closed the roof on him that time PhIl ?
I thought Muzz said he was keeping a low profile this Wimby so they could see he was really retired. Running to social media to post about the roof isn't staying low

I think the main problem w/ the decision was how long it takes for that freakin' roof to be closed! Why do they need to stop play anyway? Grigor may have cooled off, which may have contributed to his injury! Us, old guys need things to be timely, orderly, consistent, & w/o interruption! :face-with-hand-over-mouth:
