No doubt Cilic played a great match and as you say, as a prior Wimbledon finalist he knows how to play on the turf. I didn't realize Cilic last played Wimbledon back in 2021. It's been awhile, as they say.
Draper pretty much conceded he's a work in progress regarding grass court tennis.

This match sort of reminded me a bit when Khuerten gave that clay court lesson to Federer in an early round upset at the 2024 French Open, an oldster telling the young'un "I still have some life left in me".

Though of course, Draper is no Federer, LOL.
I feel like Kuerten was the only player that could have beaten Federer that year. If he gets anyone else, Federer likely wins the French Open, as well as the calendar slam, in 2004. Let's face it, prime Federer is not losing to the likes of Gaston Gaudio.

No surprises, Kuerten was a great clay court player. I hope Federer learnt a lesson there.

You can liken that match to Safin destroying Sampras at the US Open in 2000 even though Safin was the upstart.

Chuck takes his eye off the ball and we're 1 set all. One day he'll learn to remain focused throughout an entire match, but that time is not yet.

I am loving this match between Jarry and Fonseca
Jarry leads 2 sets to 1
Fonseca had chances to break early in the 4th set, but Jarry's serve which has been spot on held his serve
4 games all in the 4th set
The atmosphere in this match has been 'electric'!
Jarry is just serving bombs today so far 22 Aces, if he does win this match, his serve has really helped him in this match today
TB for the 4th set

Jarry gets it back on serve 5-4. Fonz will need to comeback

Very disappointing result from Fonseca. I know, he's young, but the draw had really opened up for to get to the QF.

His body let him down, he had 2 MTO, his hip was bothering him, could not hit off his bhand side
Jarry too solid when it mattered and his serving was a main factor in this match up

Fonz is still not comfortable on the grass. You could see he was off balance alot, slipping, etc. Needs more time to get acclimated and hone his footwork for the lawn. He'll get there Dude

Yeah, I know. I keep reminding myself that this is his first full tour: everything is new, a first. I think he's going to take a big step up next year, when everything is a second time. And yeah, he needs to tighten up a few things, work on endurance, know how to maximize his body, etc. The kid might not even be fully in his "man body" yet.

It is impressive that he's won at least one match at each Slam, two at the last two. Let's hope for a 4R result at the US Open, though of course it is contingent on the draw. I'm also hoping he can bring home another title before the year's out.
