Well done Jarry who makes Wimbledon to the 4th round for the first time
His serve all match was just outstanding
Well done to Fonseca as well
Enjoyable Match!
That should have been Holger if he didn't have the sense of entitlement like Kygrios, Zverev, and Tsitsipas.

Kyrgios I can "take" that comparison, unfortunately.

Little Holger at age 22 has issues, no doubt about it...but IMO at this point it's less about entitlement and more lack of mental focus, lack of discipline and lack of hard work.

IMO Zverev and Tsitsipas caked in entitlement came in part due to their hardwork and results, make no mistake about it. Each has won the ATP YE champs, multiple Masters, multiple slam finals, both were within 1 set of winning a Slam after being 2 sets to love up if I recall. Zverev I admit came back impressively from that serious injury in the French Open Semfinal versus Nadal a few years back.

There is a difference.

Dear Phil,
you should know me by now " I dont believe in Woulda Coulda Shoulda'
Personally speaking I dont feel Rune has a 'sense of entitlement, just my opinion, not like Zed or Stef, Kygrios

Zed was definitely closer. He served for it and played a 5th set breaker. I don't think Tits was ever in a position to win it once he let Djoke back in the match

It was to be expected that our boy Rune would have issues! Besides being talented & goodlooking, this kid is traveling the world w/ his mommy, having his ego stroked 24/7! Not only that, but the Tennis Intelligentsia anointed him the next great thing yrs. ago! Every time you looked up there were Adverts, Promos, articles, & TV clips of the top tennis players in the world! RUNE was prominant w/ not only the Lost Gen II's of Sascha, Daniil, Stefanos, & Dom, but w/ the Big 3! We were all cheering for him, but it looks like it will take a little longer for him to get settled in the top tier if ever! I don't expect people to recall as much respect as Federer has garnered, he took quite a while to est. himself! His only claim to fame from his 1999 intro was his upset of Sampras at Wimbledon in 2001! He didn't win Wimbledon for a couple more yrs.! When he took off, it was truly meteoric winning 3 of 4 majors 3 times in quick succession! Needless to say, none of us see a repeat w/ Rune! We can always hope, but I probably won't see it! END RANT!!! :fearful-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth::astonished-face::face-with-tears-of-joy:

True, but he was 2 sets to love and it is Novak but

Stefano needed not to let up at that point but he did. If I had a dime for every pundit, player & tennis fan who said at the time that Stefano could take consolation that he would eventually win a Slam I could have footed the bill for the Bezzos wedding.

Who is your favorite player?

After all these yrs. I'm still confusing peeps around here! People think Djokovic is my fave player due to how I tout his accomplishments, but it's really nothing but giving credit where credit's due! I, like most of us 20 yrs. ago were amazed & cheered the rivalry w/ Fedal when IMO, it was one-sided from the beginning! It was around this time I started weening myself off of watching men's tennis! I was actually getting bored aside from Henin making her mark as #1! I wasn't bored by Fedal matches, but the delusion was real as commentators made their matches HUGE; even when Roger was being destroyed on clay! When Novak came along, he so reminded me of Ivan Lendl who came along to halt the rivalry & dominance of McEnroe & Connors! I glommed onto him in '08 after he defeated Roger "down under!" He had a tougher time w/ Rafa, but by 2011, Novak took over their rivalry; besting Nadal in 7 straight finals in major & Masters' finals! It made me so happy since I couldn't stand the arrogance & gamesmanship of Nadal! So that may explain some confusion, but my actual faves have long since retired which is why it's so easy to skip watching the game altogether! A Few Favorites: Borg, Edberg, Navratilova, Goolagong, Hingis, Henin, & Marat Safin! I give an honorable mention to Lendl and Djokovic for doing their thing & being villainized because they broke up "the party" at the top of the ranks! I was a huge fan of Sampras an the way he played, but disillusioned by him at times! :fearful-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth::astonished-face::face-with-tears-of-joy:

Fiero425, I find it endlessly amusing how narrow your respect is for tennis players beyond a very small coiterie that you deem worthy. Don't forget just how hard it is to even get into the top 100...there are literally THOUSANDS of professional tennis players (on some level) and many more who hope to become professionals. A top 100 player is already very, very good - and top 10 guys are AMAZING.

As for the Holger Rune and Roger Federer comp, while I know you're not saying Rune is or will be as good as Federer, I think there's a crucial different: Roger showed an arc of improvement from 1998 to 2004, whereas Holger brokeout in late 2022 and has pretty much flat-lined. There might be small improvements and a stabilization, but it isn't really showing up in results.

I think another point I've often made is that while any player can have late breakouts, and tennis history has plenty of guys who peak later on, say in in the second half of their 20s rather than the usual 21-26ish range. But one thing that ALL true all-time greats share is that they are ALL great players by the time they're 21 or so. I'm not talking about winning a Slam, but consistently winning big titles and going deep in Slams, if not winning them.

You could even compare Holger through his age (22) with a non-great but overall better player, Alex Zverev. Zverev turned 22 in 2019 and already won three Masters and the Tour Finals. Holger is stuck on that lone Masters he won back in 2022, with no follow-up.

So while I still think that Holger can be a top 5 guy and win a Slam, or even multiple Slams, I think there's a cap on what he can become that wasn't there a couple years ago, and I think there are serious red flags that aren't just about his chronological age. Right now he looks more Tomas Berdych than even Alex Zverev. I'm not saying he can't equal or even surpass Zverev, but his overall "future stock" has fallen significantly over the last couple years.

There has been a rain delay all matches on the outside courts suspended
Good news is play has recommenced
Match between Mensik v Cobolli has recommenced
Cobolli 1st set 62 and has a early break in the 2nd set 2-1
Flavio Forza!
Cobolli leads Mensik 2 sets to love, winning the 2nd set 64,
Cobolli d Mensik in straight sets 62 64 62, Cobolli game really suite the faster surfaces, like grass and HC and I was quietly confident he could win this match today
Flavio Forza!

And now August Holmgren against Alex de Minaur. On the same court the other Dane just had a great win against Rybakina. Fingers crossed...
