This has to be a huge disappointment for Draper, Cilic’s salad days are long gone and after securing the # 4 seed he had a path clear of Sinner/Alcaraz.

It’s almost like the Tennis Gods are clearing the path for yet another Djokovic final appearance at W.

This is amazing seeing Cilic play like this after 8 yrs. of dropping major finals to Federer! It seems like just yesterday he was awarded a Queen's Chp. when Nalbandian lost his mind & assaulted a linesman in 2012! If Cilic moves along & upsets anyone else, m/b Menšík, Djokovic will cotinue his roll to yet another Wimbledon final! :face-with-hand-over-mouth::fearful-face::astonished-face::face-with-tears-of-joy:

Moxie will be pleased,
Munar backing up his win from the other day taking out the streaky Bublik with a 3 set win over Marozan 62 63 76(9)
You said that before. I'm not sure what makes you think I'm such a fan of Munar. Because he's Spanish? I'm not that indiscriminate. I pick US, Spanish and Italian players if I have no other dog in the fight. Munar is interesting of late, but don't mistake me for an actual fan.. And Marozan is very good, so that was a great win for Munar.

To be fair, and what I saw of the match, Cilic was pretty vintage. I understand that Draper gets the UK pressure, which can be really too much, but Cilic seemed to me to be playing and serving great. He won the USO on his serve.

On court 18 the match between Monfils v Fucsovics has been suspended 2 sets all
Gael served for the match, too, in the 4th. It's like he's not even having fun if it doesn`t go 5.

What I saw of it, it was a pretty vintage performance. Don't forget that Cilic actually won a Major, beating Federer in the process.

I forget to mention a Danish player, not named Holger, August Holmgren, upset Shorty Shorts aka Machac in a nail biting ( 10-5 in the super TB 5th set)
This qualifier came out of nowwhere to advance to the 3rd round, he will play Alex de Minaur

ikr, I don't understand that one. I could understand if they suspended the match after Set 2 (I still would have not liked that decision with Ben up 2 sets, if it was a set a piece then okay), but 2 sets up and 5-4, at least try to get in the potential deciding game.

It was Bonkers from the umpire, okay it was getting dark, though Ben should have been allowed to serve out the match yesterday full stop
Hijikata asked the umpire 30 mins before he stopped the match, to be suspended and the umpire at that time said no play on? then as Ben was about to serve for the match he suspended it,
Appalling Decision! anyway he got the job done in 71 secs flat today in a love service game

Interesting take by Draper on his loss:

1) So again, the tennis surfaces are not as “interchangeable” as some claim.

2) I asked earlier in this thread if Draper had enough of a killer FH to make the finals, he conceded his FH is “spinnier” as compared to say Ciluc’s flatter FH.

Yes, his FH is not as flat as some, but I don't think it was the reason for his loss. He's still a little green when it comes to point construction and shot selection. His spinny FH could work, but needs to be executed correctly in the rally. He just ran up against a buzzsaw who knows how to play effectively on the grass. Marin was holding comfortably, but Jack struggled consistently in his serve games.

Fonz down 2 sets to love against Jarry. Takes an MTO and finds himself up 5-2 in the 3rd.

No doubt Cilic played a great match and as you say, as a prior Wimbledon finalist he knows how to play on the turf. I didn't realize Cilic last played Wimbledon back in 2021. It's been awhile, as they say.
Draper pretty much conceded he's a work in progress regarding grass court tennis.

This match sort of reminded me a bit when Khuerten gave that clay court lesson to Federer in an early round upset at the 2024 French Open, an oldster telling the young'un "I still have some life left in me".

Though of course, Draper is no Federer, LOL.
