Haha. Well, I am a bit concerned - and I probably like Jannik a bit more than Carlos. I mean, Carlos is already the favorite and Jannik still the runner-up, but this loss makes me think there's a larger gap between the two--right now, on clay/grass--than I was hoping to see. I just think the draw will be important for him to re-gain confidence and build up some momentum, if he's going to have a chance at beating Carlos.
I have always thought Janniks game suits the grass better than clay, he has flat shots and can return the ball low to players feet, of course on grass the serve is most important, agree with your thoughts the draw will be most important, Jannik at RG had the tougher draw, than say Carlos or Novak, though to my surprise he didnt drop a set on the way to the final, Bublik's best surface is grass, and I knew this would be a tricky match for Jannik, he had his chances to brreak Bublik in the 2nd and 3rd sets, his serve when needed let him down, I am not pushing the panic buttons yet.
Jannik even said he has his chances and he didnt take them, will reset and prepare for Wimbledon
May I say this Bublik at Wimbledon will be a NightMare for any player who gets them in their draw!
In saying that Bublik can look disinterested in a match, and wander off mentally, one thing in defeating a top player like Jannik, lets see if he can back up this performance in his next match in Halle,

Well Sinner didn't make it! Someone was bound to be upset, might as well be Jannik! It's usually no big deal if a top players' upset B4 Wimbleon! Bublik just blew him off the court in his own way in 3 tough sets! Bublik and Draper are going to be dangerous! We'll see at SW 19!:fearful-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth:
Bingo. We have a winner.

Most of the players just want to get a feel again playing on grass.

I thought this would be his graceful exit to the AELTC
I don't think it would serve him to get out this early. Like Kieran, I don't even mind if he wins it. I don't see the harm, if he doesn't turn an ankle. Seems like he could still use the match play on grass.

The grass at Halle is much more slippery than Queens I must say, as usual Carlos found a win to win in the end

Bublik was a tough draw, as he can be tricky. I saw only a little of this match, but I think it was just bad luck. I do think that Jannik could have used a few more matches on grass, but I agree with the TC panel that says best of 5 is a different story. I think Sinner will play himself into Wimbledon, and his game IS suited to grass. And don't forget the irony that early rounds of a Major tend to be easier, unless you get a crappy floater. I think he'll be fine to get to the 2nd week.

It's also very hot in London, so the grass is pretty dry. But @Fiero425, I don't think there's any reason to say, "Munar who?" Jaume has been having some much better results of late. I didn't watch all of the match, but Carlos was definitely not dialed in. That's why I say he needs to stay in the tournament. But yes, Alcaraz found a way to win.

Thank you for a sensible post, I would have like Jannik to get a few more matches on the grass as well, I am not panicking, the draw will be interesting

Quite frankly I was impressed with the way Munar was playing, as I posted Carlos found a way to win, I mean at the end of the day he has more weapons
Come on now he only knows one player that is Novak :)

He'll go to London and get some practice in on the grass. He'll be fine.

Ahh, El Dude, you want that holy grail/unicorn…. 2 top ATP players evenly matched on all 3 surfaces who battle it out for tennis supremacy on all four Slams.

You don’t ask for much, do you? ; )

Just wait until we get to the Wimbledon finals, and it's those 2 again. Very good chance. Or what? Alcaraz v. Novak again? Who else have you got, really?

Ha, no doubt. Well really, I just want them to be close enough that it isn't a foregone conclusion...which I think Roland Garros proved on clay. So good news! We'll see about grass and hards, though...

Who else? Novak limped to the Wimbledon final on a bum leg last yr., who's to really stop him? The law of avg. & time should go against Novak! He has made the last 6 finals winning 4! He'll end up being a dangerous floater for the top 4 seeds breaking up the talent he'll need to face! @PhiEaglesfan712 & I think dropping to #5 may be a blessing in disguise! The Semi & Final would be tougher if all 4 make their appt.'d rounds! It benefited Novak to catch Alcaraz in the QF in Australia earlier this yr.! Normally he'd of gotten past Zverev in the SF if not for his leg issue IMO! Sinner probably would've won the final, but I'm just giving out a possible scenerio at SW19! :fearful-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth::astonished-face::yawningface:

I'm with Margaret in saying that it's always better to be in the top 4 of a Major. And, at Novak's age. Sure, you might catch someone early before they're fully ready, but I doubt that's something Novak wants to count on. He'd be far better off in the top 4.

Sorry. Was I not clear? His problems are Alcaraz and Sinner, and he'd be better off not facing them before SFs. He would be better off hoping someone else takes them out, and it's unlikely to happen earlier than that..
