The Tournament:

The US Open Tennis Championships, commonly called the US Open, is a hardcourt tennis tournament held annually in Queens, New York. Since 1987, the US Open has been chronologically the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of the year, except for 2020. The other three, in chronological order, are the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon. The US Open starts on the last Monday of August and continues for two weeks, with the middle weekend coinciding with the US Labor Day holiday. The tournament is one of the oldest tennis championships in the world, originally known as the U.S. National Championship, for which men's singles and men's doubles were first played in August 1881. It is the only Grand Slam that was not affected by cancellation of World War I and World War II or interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

About New York City:

New York, often called New York City or NYC, is the most populous city in the United States. With a 2020 population of 8,804,190 distributed over 300.46 square miles (778.2 km2), New York City is the most densely populated major city in the United States. The city is more than twice as populous as Los Angeles, the nation's second-largest city. New York City is situated at the southern tip of New York State. Situated on one of the world's largest natural harbors, New York City comprises five boroughs, each of which is coextensive with a respective county. The five boroughs, which were created in 1898 when local governments were consolidated into a single municipality, are: Brooklyn (Kings County), Queens (Queens County), Manhattan (New York County), the Bronx (Bronx County), and Staten Island (Richmond County). New York City is a global city and a cultural, financial, high-tech, entertainment, glamor, and media center with a significant influence on commerce, health care and scientific output in life sciences, research, technology, education, politics, tourism, dining, art, fashion, and sports. Home to the headquarters of the United Nations, New York is an important center for international diplomacy, and it is sometimes described as the world's most important city and the capital of the world.

Apparently Novak is on his way to NYC and will play in the Mixed Doubles
Alcaraz also confirms after Cincy final he will play with Emma Radancu in the Mixed Doubles even though it will be a short turnaround

Jannik withdraw from the US Open Mix. Don't know if they'll be replaced?

I don't think he's being "wise," I just don't think he has a choice. He's sick.
To be honest, I don’t get the attraction for mixed doubles this year. I was surprised when I saw Jannik had entered. Strikes me the man has the necessary levels of selfish to succeed…

The attraction is a million dollar winning fee. What's insulting is that they're playing barely anything this year, for 5 times what the winning team last year won, in a real tournament format. Last year's winners, Errani/Vavassori, are in the tournament, and have made the semis. Personally, I hope they win again and get the big pot. It would be poetic, and otherwise justice.

Sad news for Arthur Fils
It looks like the stress fracture in his back is playing up again as he has withdrawn from the USO, a LL will come into the draw
Fils withdrew from Wimbledon and also had to retire at RG this year.
I truly hope he takes his time to come back to the tour.

Kei Nishikori wont be ready to play at the USO, he had a MRI on his back and it is not healed 100% will be trying to get back on the court very soon
LL will come into the draw

Vavassori/Errani v. Ruud/Swiatek in the final. Forza, Italia!

Cold, rainy, dreary in NYC today. Effects of Hurricane Erin.

Hopefully the seasoned and defending Mixed Doubles Champions will win against Ruud/Iga
BTW Vavassori has under $3 million in career prize money so winning $5,00,000 will be huge for him

I noted that just now, looking him up. Anyway, it would be poetic justice. They are not just the better team. They are clearly a team!

Veteran doubles team proving they know how to play doubles better in that game, for sure. Two singles players have different instincts.

The off ball movement at the net from Vavassori and Errani is miles ahead of Iga/Rudd, cant hit 2 ground strokes in a row without getting cut off or squeezed into a error

I forgot she was retiring. But she's 38. She does seem to be made for coaching, though.
Dont be surprised if she takes over Paolini next year as her full time coach, Sara was in all Jaz matches in Cincy, Jaz coach at the moment is only a fill in until Jaz finds a permanent coach
