What a great natural rivalry Carlos and Jannik are giving us and will provide for the future, after 12-15 years of here-today-gone-tomorrow talent such as Del Potro, Dominic Theim, Marin Cilic, Stan Wawrinka etc..
Del Potro, when he was healthy, was pretty hard to beat. He even denied prime Federer what would have been a 6th straight US Open title. Peak Del Potro would easily be the next player on tour after Jannik and Carlos. Considering Jannik lost/struggled against players like Bublik and Dmitrov, I'd be willing to bet that he would have had a hard time against a peak Del Potro. (As I have mentioned before, even prime Federer and prime Djokovic have lost to Del Potro.)

Marin Cilic, who just made a run at Wimbledon at nearly 37, is a great all-surface player when healthy, and at his peak, a contender at the slams, especially at Australia, Wimbledon, and the US Open. I know Dominic Thiem and Stan Wawrinka sucked on grass/Wimbledon, but at their peak, Thiem contended at the French Open and US Open almost every year, while Stan won all the other slams.

A male friend of mine attended the mens final yesterday and emailed me his thoughts on the match. He is a big Alcaraz fan and speaks fluent Spanish
He thought Carlos looked fatiqued the whole match, thought he should have skipped Queens tournament, during a changeover in the 3rd set, ' Carlos kept telling his team, ' from the back of the court he's playing much better than me. In his opinion Jannik played superb and deserved his 1st Wimbledon title

he absolutely played superbly. He had the full measure of the Alcaraz serve. Carlos was often on the backfoot dealing with the return which was coming right at his feet. I think there was a definite strategy on grass to hit down the middle and it worked. Jannik recognised that Carlos is a better mover on the surface than him so he often avoided giving him width and forced him back. Carlito has a lot of work to do to figure out how to handle this going forward. He might want to look at how Roger refused to be pushed back by taking the ball early but still managing to keep his shots deep. Yesterday those 2nd shots of his were often short and he got punished

I tend to agree with your thoughts, either though I am Italian :) I dont want to show biased
I did say in my original post before the final, Jannik is a great returner of the ball, one of the best in the tour, and he get return low to the feet of his opponent, also Jannik controlled the mid court, which was a good tactic.
Roger was superb in the way he held the baseline taking the ball early.

It seemed like, to me he lost rhythm on his serve, or his confidence after the second set.

Carlos serve wasnt as good in earlier matches , though it really clicked at Queens especially the last 3 matches he played

Photos from the Wimbledon Ball

As I've mentioned several times before, this girl has zero taste in design. All her outfits are age inappropriate. This looks like she pulled a Scarlet Ohara move. Then donned those fugly black flats that she wears w/ every dress ever. :exploding-head:

Helo me Iga looks like she draped a grey sheet over herself and tied it into a halter neck design, what the hell are those thick beads around her neck for? at least it dosent look like a Grandma kind of dress she usually wears, she needs help ASAP, the dress for the photo shoot out does her ball dress, still it is on the Grandma style

At least Sinner dressed by Gucci in a suit looks stylish

Love Daniella's look and also Sinikova at least both girls know how and what to wear to a Wimbledon Ball

Notice no one complains about a man's suit...because they all look the same. While I do think Iga hasn't got much going on in the style department, she sure can play tennis, and that's all she needs to do.

Sorry but not all mens suits look the same, you can tell a good suit from a bad one,
Iga can play tennis but sorry she is lacking the in style department and she has done covers for magazines, international ones, and looks great, pity she cant hire a decent stylist to help her, she dresses far too old for herself for starters which is pity,

I don't give the ladies a hard time about fashion! I grew up in a time when tennis clothes "became fashion!" People wore the stuff even if they never played the game! In the mid 70's, I definitely had more tennis clothing than regular streetwear! Being fashionable was only "a thing" w/ a select few of the ladies like Sharapova! Wearing flats or a "kitten heel" shouldn't be a surprise when it comes to a female athlete! Heaven knows Martina Navratilova never wore Stilettos! :face-with-hand-over-mouth::fearful-face::yawningface::face-with-tears-of-joy:

You get my point about the men's suits, though. Yes, they have the money, or the sponsors, to wear a good one, or the tux option, but no one is going to give them a hard time. It's basically one option. Women get judged by their style all the time. Iga doesn't deserve to get slagged for it, IMO. I will give them a hard time for tennis kit choices, along with the men. But the woman just won Wimbledon, ffs. Let her enjoy it without taking her down for her dress and shoes.

These days it is a different era, most of the women players dress really well when they are not in their training gear or on the court playing tennis
it is their uniform and dont you think they like to dress with the up to date fashion come on lets remember when we were all young
I have worn a uniform to work all my working life and I can tell you I cant wait to take it off and get into proper streets clothes, same with the ladies tennis players
I am just pointing out a fact that Iga has looked really good when she has been on the cover of magazines,
I am not the only one that has pointed out what Iga lacks in the dressing department btw. Keli also has pointed out the same thing.
That is my opinion and you have yours, I need to take phone call.

On a related fashion note: I find it interesting how often we flip out if we deem the men's shorts too short, or if they're sleeveless and don't pull it off well, but think nothing of the fact that most women always play in what is basically a modest bathing suit. They routinely show way more skin, and we think nothing of it. Just a thought.

No Keli gives Mahac a hard time with his shorty shorts and also women who pull up their skirts too high on the one side, you have to been careful when Keli is on the war path with mens shorty shorts, lol!
Please do we need to go to the sleeveless eg Zverev? there really has only been one male player that can do the sleeveless well and that was our beloved Rafa!
I am really going now I am trying to book tickets and accommodation for next years AO, Sfs and Finals for both the women and the men

When? Not me! They can't get short enuf for me! Those old "Bermudas" are "fugly as $#!t!" It looks esp. bad when the player has spindly legs like Zverev! Some say Pete Sampras made it "a thing" when he showed up at the USO in some huge, baggy shorts! In my day, we all but had organ parts falling out! We could pull it off better because we weren't collectively, beastly fat yet! If I were to pull out a pair of my old Fila shorts, I couldn't help but shake my head! :face-with-hand-over-mouth::yawningface::fearful-face::astonished-face:
