The Tournament:

The Wuhan Open was one of three WTA events in China new to the calendar in 2014. It is also one of two Premier-level stops in China.

Sandwiched in between Premier events in Tokyo and Beijing during the WTA's Asian swing, the Wuhan Open takes place at the Optics Valley International Tennis Center.

Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province and the most populous city in Central China, is often referred to as the country's economic and geographical center. It is also the hometown of two-time Grand Slam champion Li Na. Src: Wiki

About Wuhan

Wuhan, the sprawling capital of Central China's Hubei province, is a commercial center divided by the Yangtze and Han rivers. The city contains many lakes and parks, including expansive, picturesque East Lake. Nearby, the Hubei Provincial Museum displays relics from the Warring States period, including the Marquis Yi of Zeng's coffin and bronze musical bells from his 5th-century B.C. tomb.

Another good win for Ash Barty - taken out Konta and Radwanska in successive rounds.

Dominika Cibulkova out early. Not a good season and looks like Singapore hopes are done.

I wouldn't expect anything from Sloane until Aus. Even before her injury, she always showed up for the slams. I don't expect much to change. There will be a lot on the line for Sloane, Osta and Mugu. All eyes will be on these 3 to see who steps up at the opening slam of 2018

Sakkiri is in the semifinal and is qualifier - will she get a bye in Beijing as they usually give to semi and finalists in Wuhan- anybody know?

Big statement from Penko.

Another high profile scalp for Ash Barty - she's taken Konta, Aga and now Pliskova.

Nice display of sportsmanship by Barty in the Pliskova win. Pliskova hit an Ace that was called out. Barty said it was in and conceded the point.

That will be a tough match between the two. I would give the slight edge to Ash who has a more reliable serve and isn't afraid to come forward.
