The Wuhan Open was one of three WTA events in China new to the calendar in 2014. It is also one of two Premier-level stops in China.

Sandwiched in between Premier events in Tokyo and Beijing during the WTA's Asian swing, the Wuhan Open takes place at the Optics Valley International Tennis Center.

Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province and the most populous city in Central China, is often referred to as the country's economic and geographical center. It is also the hometown of two-time Grand Slam champion Li Na.

"I'm so proud that my city is staging such a prestigious tournament," Li said.

Jankovic takes out Muguruza in 2 sets.

Does the WTA have the same rule as the ATP for the final tournament regarding a GS winner ranked outside the top 8? Because if she keeps playing like this she will end outside the top 10.

I don't think it does. Mugu grew up on clay. This level of inconsistency is strange.

The best I could find on the WTA website says "The Top 8 ranked singles players in the WTA Rankings the week of October 24, 2016 will qualify for the WTA Finals." So yeah, seems like she doesn't get the safety net.

She is #6 in the "Road to Singapore" right now, with #7-9 Suarez-Navarro, Keys, and Cibulkova around 500 points behind. At the very least, the tournaments after Beijing will probably be "live" for her making it there, of course depending on the results of the three on her heels.

Yeah we never know about Kvitova - It's kind of a charm isn't it

Here are the proud winners of their third doubles title of the year Lucie Safarova and Bethanie Mattek-Sands:
