It just has Serena missing. I presume it's an error.

#32 should be Venus' rank. Venus isn't on that list at all, so it's just a mistake.

An embarrassing error. You should contact them, so that they fix it.

Can't be an error. I don't believe no one sees there's

no No 1. And hard to believe they can look at that

and not know somethings wrong, especially ESPN

And look at the bottom of the page

May be the person in charge of maintaining the database is a hater as an
individual and does not reflect on ESPN, except as it relates to incompetence.

Sometimes it is hard to distinguish between maliciousness and pure incompetence.:puzzled

Yes It does reflect on ESPN that they would have such

a person in that position. Is there no oversight. The

rankings is not commentary, it just stats that should be

accurate.

This is an error. There is NO WAY someone at ESPN did this on purpose. He/she would be out of a job immediately if that were the case, and wouldn't get a recommendation for a new job. Don't read anything else into it, because there's nothing there.

There is always a glitch when it comes to Serena ranking. Remember when Tennis.com didn't change the womens ranking last year for about a month after Serena retook the top spot?

I contacted them. Let's see how long it takes them to respond.

I'm leaving town for a few days, but here is the email I sent them and their electronic response. I still haven't received a resolution email, but there is a phone # listed and anyone so inclined could call in the issue as well.

My email sent on the 8th:
On your WTA rankings tennis site, there is a pretty big error. There is no #1 ranked player listed and when you look at #32 it shows as Serena Williams. That's a pretty careless error you should fix immediately for an American based company to not have their top American player listed correctly in the rankings. Here's the link to the website in question http://espn.go.com/sports/tennis/rankings/_/type/2
_________________________________________________________________________________

Their electronic ticket response also generated on the 8th:
Thank you for contacting us.

I am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

I have created a ticket to resolve this issue. Your ticket reference number is TICKET-xxxx. You will be notified via email once a resolution has been reached.

For live assistance with this or any other issue, please call Customer Care at 1-888-549-3776 (ESPN) between 8 am and 1 am EST.

http://www.tennisfrontier.com/womens-world-tennis-rankings/

It may be behind a week or so but it's right on!

Some employee at ESPN must have done that considering the #32 ranking. Software doesn't make errors like that and losing the number 1 slot together with Serena appearing at #32 equates to two human errors... I don't buy it.

I thought at first it was the Road to Singapore until I noticed Serena at #32, then looked at the WTA page, and Serena is #4 in that race. Odd...

But why would a person do such a thing? His/her supervisor would know who did it, and reprimand him/her. What's there to gain?

How are these lists compiled? Maybe a wrong digit was entered?

I agree, most times these things get direct upload from the source, in this case WTA.

I wonder where they get it from.
