A few of my favorite matches in the last 5-6 years featured JMDP:

- The Olympics semifinal, with Roger prevailing 19-17, after nearly 4.5 hours. (I think it became the longest three-setter in history, surpassing the 2009 Madrid Rafa/Djokovic semifinal.)

- The 2013 Wimbledon semifinal. Again, it's a match he lost, this time to Novak (7-5, 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-7(6), 6-3), but it was the best match of the tournament.

- The 2009 back-to-back wins against Nadal and Federer to win the US Open.

Just getting through a match without any pain would be a victory right now. I'm not sure if I missed any news but did he decide to just play through the pain or did he do the last procedure to get rid of the problem? Sorry to see him lose the first match but hopefully he will be in more draws as the year progresses. Always more interesting when del Potro is lurking in a draw.

Yeah, I think most of us have forgotten how much excitement this guy brings wherever he plays. He was really missed, but now that he's back, one step at a time, I guess.

He's still only 26 years old, so hopefully he has five more years or so. Currently ranked #616.

Spot on. I guess those are the best ones, but I could add 2009 RG semi against Federer (lost) and the bronze medal match in 2012, agains Djokovic (won). Oh, and the 2011 Davis cup final match against Nadal (lost).

Great additions, especially the RG semi.

I remember that RG. Oh Boy, it almost looked like he will take Fed out. But, he did not.
(and that is why Fed gave USO trophy later that year in return to him :p)

I'm a little more hopeful this time that he will be OK in the long run. It will definitely take a long time to get anywhere near where he was but he has had a lot of time off to rest the wrist. The way it all was handled in early 2010 was terrible and caused a greater setback.

I remember he had some other great matches against Novak in 2013, as well as that fantastic WD SF - their IW SF and their Shanghai final that year were also both superb!

Absolutely thrilled to have him back, but I fear he will never get back to where he was.

Seems to me he may actually never recover that backhand. Sad if true.

:-/ Sadly, I was wondering the same thing after Popsicle beat him and then got destroyed by Dimitrov. At the very least, Del Po has a long way to go before he's 'back'. Hope he gets there.

The 2013 semifinal at Wimbledon was probably the match of the year (for me). Both guys left everything they had out on that court. That one is saved on the DVR.

Yes he has but he asked for a WC and organizers refused. Not a very friendly attitude towards Juan
