He already did it for his knee and was not banned. So its legal, but it does sound a bit dodgy. Injecting stuff into your body.

I already posted about that here http://www.tennisfrontier.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=1187&pid=147103#pid147103

We can expect the sequel to Robocop so next year no doubt and he's letting the world know early.

Btw this process is illegal in Italy and according to this link WADA are going to re-evaluate it in 2015. Check out google translate.

I don't mean to encourage any of the innuendo that tends to follow Rafa around, but doesn't his doctor seem a bit like Dr. Frankenstein with all the blood spinning and stem cell manipulation? Whatever happened to rest, an ice pack, and some Advil?

Good news AP. I think this treatment helped Rafa in the past. Hopefully he will be back in full strength next year. I think having all of top players in top form makes for more balanced draws and the competition is more fierce.:)

Makes you wonder what kind of stuff is actually on the banned list. This definitely sounds like a procedure that shouldn't be allowed whatsoever.

I don't know, but as long as they reveal what they do and it is accepted by ATP, we must accept it as well.

As for what's on the banned list, I guess Dr Front will let us know.;)

I've already accepted that tennis is pretty light on everything having to do with PED's. And I will make it clear that Rafa is doing nothing wrong since this isn't on the banned list. The question is how the hell can something like that not be on the banned list??

Looking forward to Rafa's return. Tennis is boring as hell without him...

I don't get your point, if one blows out a ligament, you think they shouldn't use replacement cadaver parts..come on Darth, it's his on cells,

RE: General Doping/PEDs Discussion

This is a very dodgy argument, that a player could be following legal guidelines within the sport but still be treated with suspicion. That's not Darth's argument, by the way, because he acknowledges that "Rafa is doing nothing wrong", but I think if stem cell thingies are to be treated with suspicion, at least we should be willing to admit that players who are using them aren't to be treated with even a smidgen of suspicion for doing so, because what they're doing is indisputably legal.

I also think that a thread on banned substances should maybe stick to stuff that's actually banned, since none of us have a PhD in this stuff, if you know what I mean, and Google hasn't got a doctorate...

And blood doping uses a person's own blood too...

RE: General Doping/PEDs Discussion

I posted a link to a very good article on stem cell treatment earlier and no idea why it was deleted. Presumed it was simply moved but seems to have been deleted. Can't see why quite honestly as clearly it's good to educate the public on what this treatment involves and also its possibility for abuse so here it is again.

It's not really an answer to the point AP is making, though.

I'm sure that WADA look at every therapy to see if it's giving players unfair advantages, helping them in ways which shouldn't be allowed.

This therapy is, however, allowed.

And so long as it is, then any players using it are doing nothing wrong...

This thread is a compilation of posts from various threads, which were in both the ATP & General Tennis Talk forums.

As we've stated before, keep in mind that discussions of PEDs/doping is limited to the thread dedicated to that topic:

General Doping/PEDs Discussion

This thread is to discuss a legitimate, legal medical procedure which Rafa is undertaking.
