Some men are so inclined to shout "lesbian" when women have muscles, athletic chops, and are clearly better than they are at a sport they play. It's not even as homophobic as it is pathetic.

since when are they better at tennis? typical of feminists who invent delusions to feel self-worth.

Besides, some people are born homophobic no? puts me off when i see two men holding hands (or worse)...

well, tented is kinda nowhere now and you're here among friends.... Those admin abusing pc mugs always suck it in the long run.... Just say what you believe in and stick to your buddies, then nothing bad can happen, well, maybe you'll get abused a few times but in the long run it's always the abusers who drop out for good......

thanks good to know those sick people are gone.

An interesting overview of Court's career and controversies from The Guardian.

Piece ends with this:

'It was also King who stepped in to defend Court during the 2012 imbroglio, again amid calls to rename the arena. “Get rid of her for that?” King said. “Because you don’t agree with her? Are you kidding? Please. She deserves it. She’s a great player.”

A great player, yes, but for better or worse, Court is now the principal architect of her own image. “All my life I’ve believed you must tell the truth,” Court said last year. “Hold on to your beliefs, no matter how unpopular, no matter if saying your piece is going to get you in trouble.”'

Court got the arena named after her 100% due to her tennis achievements, anyone who wants to remove that (because of her stand against SSM) is nothing but a PC simpleton.

Good to know she doesn't suck up to PC assholes, and persistence is probably what made her a great player to start with.

lol and mrzz started worrying about the health of political correctness...

Hehehehe, I started worrying about 25 years ago... don't judge me over the ways I choose to fight the fight (as always, all cool on my part, man!)

This particular issue is important. It is not only about separation, as most have rightly indicated. It is about were you draw the line. If separation were everything, we would have a lot of things named after that male player (sorry I forgot the name) who was convicted for being a pedophile. In that case, people judge it was too much, and, notwithstanding his sporting achievements, nothing (or almost nothing, correct me historians) was named after him.

So we separate, up to a point. Where we draw the line is an important discussion. This line, for me, was not crossed by Margaret Court, not by a long shot, even if I don't give a flying fuck for her personal beliefs. The name should surely remain there.

But, as I am a mean spirited bastard, I would rename Hisense Arena after some other female player, and portray them both embraced at both courts...

lol man, you're comparing things that shouldn't be compared at all.....

Bob Hewitt was deleted from the Hall of Fame and stuff cause he was a perv and a criminal......

Margaret Court is fighting against pervs and criminals

From what you wrote one may think you're suggesting Margaret Court did something bad but it wasn't as bad as what the pedophile Bob Hewitt did......

The point is that Margaret Court did nothing bad at all.... She didn't cross any lines and she was never close to crossing any lines... She's doing good things not bad things

so that comparison plainly stinks man.....

BTW, the LGBT movement should be grateful to Christians..... The tolerance to gays stems from Christian culture... Christianity's stance on this issue is basically this: We don't hurt gay people, we let them do whatever they wanna do in private, we even protect them if necessary but we don't like gay propaganda....

Just look at the communists' attitude to gays or the muslims' one.....

The problem is that the LGBT people take everything for granted and are targeting the wrong people......

That's why everything is getting out of the so called "western culture's" hands......

If things continue going as they are one day people like Navratilova will cry back people like Margaret Court and their big tolerance ......

I am not the one who is making the comparison, @Nekro . The ones who are asking for the court to be renamed are the ones who are ultimately doing it. I am only calling attention to this fact.

Great then cause what you wrote here suggested the opposite:

Like you believed Margaret Court's prankster meter or whatever was going up but it didn't cross a line

What i'm saying is that she did nothing bad.......

About what the people who are asking for her name to get removed think or want there's not much to say, we know who they are, destructive people who are turning the whole globe into a big mess.....

You said you're an atheist: atheists usually do what you're doing, they're messing around, pretending to sit on the fence, denying taking sides and stuff, acting like some self-appointed and unbiased moderators, but these people usually take the PC peoples side, you just have to look at whom they befriend ;) and when push comes to shove they usually nuke the conservative, christian side or whoever is opposing the destructive PC people..... I could give a long list of examples here of atheists ganging up with the PC mob.....

Yeah, so no worries, Christians know what's going on........

But ofc you have every right to speak your mind and support whoever you want to........

No, @Nekro, I did not suggest the opposite. I am saying that what she did, even if I do not agree with it, is no reason to take her name off the court.

I called attention to when such things happen, and that those things are far different from what is happening now. I am on your side on this.

However, in general, yes, I am not on the Christian's side, as I am not on the "PC" side either, and I simply won't get in to this discussion. But I tell you that I am not on the fence. The two sides you described don't exhaust all the possibilities in the world. But, if you use the logic "if you are not with me than you're against me", fine. By this logic I probably would be against anyone here.

Anyway, I have a friendly board relation with most here. It means I can be an adversary on different topics, but it is just that. The moment I feel I am dealing with someone dishonest and harmful, I may change the tune.

I hear what you're saying, and i understand it...

However, the philosophical mishmash won't solve the problems of the world, i think you agree there are some very serious ones atm.....

That's why i think that your "stance", if you can call it that, is completely useless, at least if you look at it with solving those problems in mind.....

That's why when i hear someone say he/she's an atheist i start to facepalm, i know i'm dealing with a hindrance, or something even worse.....

I mean i used to enjoy shooting the shit with Clydey (also an atheist, and a very lovable person) in mtf's Philosophical Paradise thread, like 10? years ago but these are much uglier times, at least here in Europe, so i hope you understand if i find the atheist whatever you call it annoying.....

and then ofc i get why some people think Christians are annoying, and i'm not saying they should be silenced or whatever.....

In this case too, it's Navratilova who wants to silence or at least humiliate Court......

I was strictly talking about current players. Errani has a boyfriend and is not gay. Are you just going by looks? Because of the 3 I know for sure you only have one player listed Dellacqua.

Errani and Vinci were apparently a couple in the past and I forgot to mention Stosur also travels with her girlfriend so there's another. Not a big deal, just saying. I'm not just going by looks either, no. Going by what I've read only and maybe Errani swings both ways.

Um, no. Just 'cos women have muscles does not make them lesbians. I never said that. I'm not normally into chicks with muscles either but there are exceptions. Cassandra Martin is hot as hell and lifts more than many guys.

Surely I do. And I also agree with you that there are times (and places) for action and not words. Look, I know there are things happening on your country, on your soil, and precisely because of this you never saw me (and never will) judging your words or anything like that. But we are here precisely debating a lot of issues (and I think this is always important). Anyway, we might move this discussion elsewhere (probably the PC thread).

The headline in the Guardian says Court lost the respect of a nation... Which nation? The majority of Australians I speak to (not all by the way) think she has the right to freedom of speech and the stadium shouldn't be renamed. Maybe, it's just Queensland, but move outside of the media, there doesn't seem to be this huge outcry and controversy.
I'm not responsible for the headline, but the article is rather more fair than that.

Sergiy Stakhovsky has declared in the press that "half of women players are lesbians." As if anyone actually cares what he says, anyway. And he's equally sure that none of the top 100 men are. Self-serving/self-preserving? Anyway, John McEnroe has a response to him and to Margaret Court:

I am also sure that no one in the top ATP 100 players is lesbian. I had a little doubt about Dolgopolov once, to be honest...

sure you always turn deaf to things that don't suit you. Simply put, you don't know if someone cares what he says, and that (none of top 100 men is gay) he knows for sure better than you do.

Case closed.
