Very interesting article. Thanks, @Federberg. Some insights into the coaching of Murray. If nothing else, we see what we all believe: that coaching match-ups come down to some intangibles, like temperamental chemistry. Surely that has nothing to do with gender. Ricardo's hair just goes on fire when you mention women in the context of men's sports.

oh you know so much, how come Andy won nothing significant with Amelie then? surely that has nothing to do with 'gender', its all 'Amelie's fault.

Or perhaps he could just place a cardboard cut-out of Lendl in the box. It's not like he ever changed expression. And he was really just there to prevent Andy from yelling at the box, i.e., whinging.

I still think he's doing just about as well as he can. If his career ends with two slams in an era of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, I don't think there's much shame in that. The British press over-estimate how strong he is. No question he's clearly superior to the rest, but I would only be down on the guy if he got to a major final and spooned it against someone outside of the big 3. He can hire Lendl, Borg, Connors and gawd almighty. It ain't gonna make him a better player than the big 3

I think she'd have been pleased. He did everything that a champion should do, back against the wall. He upped his game. His energy was very positive, and he even stole some tricks from Stepanek...getting aggressive behind a nice wide serve, then charging the net. It might actually have been good for Andy to have this tutorial with Radek. Murray hangs back too much, waiting for things to happen. Stepanek forced him out of his comfort zone. That's where he's going to win more big titles...out of his comfort zone. As to the OP, I think one thing he got from Amelie was to be more calm and positive. Lendl told him he'd better bottle it. Mauresmo moved it a bit farther down the road, perhaps. Andy's talent would likely have gotten him through this crucible of a first round. But it was his new-found positivity that made it seem much more like he's sturdy enough for the final, which I think he'll make.
