The Tournament: The Laver Cup is an international indoor hard court men's team tennis tournament between Team Europe and Team World, the latter of which is composed of players from all other continents except Europe. Usually held annually since 2017, the tournament is intended to be the Ryder Cup of the tennis world. It normally takes place two weeks after the US Open, with the location rotating between various different host cities (that usually do not have an ATP Tourevent); alternating yearly between European cities and cities in the rest of the world. (Coincidentally, the 2021 Laver Cup and 2021 Ryder Cup were both held on the same late September weekend of 2021.) In addition to the guaranteed participation fees which are based upon the players' ATP rankings, each member of the winning team gets $250,000 in prize money, but the tournament itself does not count towards the players' point totals in the ATP Tour for that year. In May 2019, the Laver Cup became an officially sanctioned ATP Tour event.

So yeah the surgeries failed, setback after setback and he has to retire. I guess he has been fortunate overall, some players never got back in shape. At least he bounced back In 2017 after the issue in 2016, with the extra titles.

Federer has confirmed he will play one doubles match on Friday, his last professional match before he retires.
Matteo Berrettini will replace Federer as an alternate for the singles for Team Europe.

Facing Jack Sock and Tiafoe's wild game may be tough matchup in the doubles match for Fedal.
Indeed!

I'll apparently have to sub to Discovery+ for a month to see any of it.
If many do (the Fed last match effect), I wonder how long before the ATP1000's on the Amazon prime disappear behind a further paywall?

Plan B, TennisTV..

The Laver Cup Open Practice Day saw a total of 14,770 people including 3,000 children from 85 different schools ( Roger arranged it with the Duchess of Cambridge before the Queens death as a charity event).

I hope the children got free tickets? They rip fans of with a practice session and then put charity work in the media to cover up the pure greed of charging £22 for a practise session

Yes I read how much it was for a practice session, that went directly to the charity, I would imagine the children were allowed in free.
