Maria has parted ways from her coach, Hogstedt. IMO a possible reason for this split was her inability to beat Serena and maybe some poor advice at what to say at press conferences (lol). The question is who will be a good fit for Maria? I know that Ana has also split from her coach.

It will be interesting to see who is the new coach.I went to Maria's website and she stated she will be confirming the
new coach in the next couple of days.

Apart from Maria.Laura Robson,Ana Ivanovic and Caroline Woznicacki are also looking for new coaches.

I mentioned this on another thread a while ago, but will mention it again. Now that Andy Roddick has retired, Larry Stefanki might be available. I don't know if he is already working with someone else, but if not, he would be worth looking into. He has helped many players over the years, including McEnroe, Rios, Henman, and Roddick. His most impressive feat, though, was getting Fernando Gonzalez into amazing form, beginning in '06, and culminating in his incredible run at the '07 Australian Open.

I'm not sure if Stefanki works with women, but there's no harm in asking. I could see him helping any of them, but especially Sharapova and Wozniacki.

This should have happened a long time ago in my opinion. Sometimes you feel players waste opportunities to improve by giving someone chance after chance to get you where you need only to continuously fall short. Though I will say, most of her problems lie with in her serving, so until she gets that in order she won't beat Serena. Serena is equally good off the return as Maria.

wild guess here, but the part about press conferences to me seemed more like a joke. hence the "lol". ;)

This is a gamble imo. Where does Sharapova really go from here? You make it sound like Hogstedt has done a bad job, but imo he has done a very good job, and has done some good technical work. It is far from guaranteed that the next person even replicates the same success she has had under Hogstedt.

He's done quite a fine job with Maria considering where her game was 3 years ago. Again, he's guided her to a slam win and a couple appearances in slam finals and back to number 1. So, I didn't understand the comment "it should have happened a long time ago."

I wonder if Michael Joyce will come back as part of her entourage.

Yeah, but he didn't get her a win against Serena which I think she ultimately is after. I think that is where she is coming from I mean what other logical reason does she have for parting ways? Her record is pretty decent against everyone else not named Serena. I mean from the bits of coaching that we have heard him deliver to Maria about Serena even Maria was like are you kidding me. Hey, I think he has done fine, but apparently Maria doesn't agree.

Because she has not been able to defeat Serena she should find another coach? Fact is, she wasn't able to beat Serena under Michael Joyce either. Should Vika then fire her coach being that she's only beaten Serena when she was sick? It's not like Maria hasn't been win majors and big tournament under this coach. If her career was like Caroline's is now, I'd understand his replacement, but Maria is in the final four, two and one most often to think her coach should have been replaced.

I actually think he's doing a bang-up job. You can see suttle changes in her game since he came onboard.

It may not have anything to do w/ the job he's been doing. They may have had a disagreement about some changes he wanted to make w/ her game. Who really knows?

This is what Joyce said, and I don't think what he said is that far off from the truth: http://www.tennis.com/pro-game/2013/05/joyce-yuri-sharapov-afraid-maria-playing-serena/47555/#.UeBDekG1Hvd
