The Tournament:

The tournament, a combined ATP-WTA event is staged in Beijing Olympic Park at the China National Tennis Center. The facility - constructed for the 2008 Summer Olympics - expanded to 11 courts featuring a new 15,000-seat stadium with a retractable roof in 2011. It utilizes space-age air-cooling technology. In 2006, the China Open became the first tournament outside the United States to implement Hawk-Eye electronic line calling.

The City:

Beijing is the capital of the People's Republic of China and, with 21+ million inhabitants, is world's most populous capital city. (And second most in China, after Shanghai.) Beijing has 3 millennia of history, richly demonstrated in some of it's most famous attractions: the Summer Palace, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, amongst others, and the Beijing Opera. The Great Wall is accessible in the mountains a short drive to the north. At the same time, it has embraced the 21st Century in it's architecture, and the West, as it now has Starbucks, Planet Hollywood, for better or worse. And also for the worse is Beijing's air quality, which is often dreadful and noxious. Shopping is a major tourist attraction. The old district is Wangfujing Street, and the modern option is Taikoo Li Sanlitun.

Sasha is wearing the lucky color in China. And Nadal's got a rough start tomorrow v. Pouille, who took him down at the USO last year.

I would say that Nadal is clear favorite ... has no doubts about it.

Nice win by JMDP. Pretty good Cuevas, with his one-hander (for the fetishists.) Rafa up now, against the unpredictable Pouille.

Pouille giving Nadal trouble. Not surprisingly. Let's see if he can hold on.

Lucas Pouille doing a mini-Kyrgios here: he can only be bothered to care if he's playing a top guy. Plus, it seems the court suits him more.

It seems Nadal draws all of these types of players who play the match of their lives against him (Fog, Pouille, etc.)

They're all going to try to play out of their skin against a top player. He's just frustrating because he doesn't seem to bring the game he has versus lesser players.

Pouille had 2 MPs, and Rafa takes the TB. We're going 3!

Oh look everyone! Here comes big boy Lucas playing his one annual good match, and against Rafa at that. At US Open last year he played 600% above his capabilities, now he is playing 800%.
What an excellent player, with loads of talent and determination.
NOT.

(Averages 200 km/h on his groundstrokes vs Nadal, but plays like a pusher agaisnt the rest of the tour and hits 3 errors per game.)
Ughhhh

Finally, Nadal breaks, and will serve for the match.

And Nadal guts it out. LOL @Puppet Master! Pouille will be have nightmares tonight, but why can't he play like that against the rest of the field? He was brilliant for much of that match.

Once and awhile Pouille and Kyrgios play a good much but to win a tournament they need to have more than a very good serve like both have

I would say they both have a lot more than that. The problem is between the ears.
