Every year, the last week of September is marked as Banned Books Week in USA.
This is supported by various organizations such as American Libraries Association,
National Coalition Against Censorship etc. It was celebrated across various universities
in USA with reading of paragraphs from various books banned (at one time or other)
by various entities for various reasons. A classic example of such a book would
be "Satanic Verses" by Salman Rushdie.

Here is the link to the banned books week

I would like to know the opinion of folks as to under what circumstances, if ever, is it
ok to ban a book.

p.s. Just in case you are wondering, no I am not trolling. Also, I don't have a preconceived
"right answer" to the question posed above.

I'd ban chick lits. Just to help women.

But seriously, under what circumstances is it okay to ban a book? When the book contains paedophile images. That's an example. It's against the law to photograph and abuse children, and any book showing such a thing must be considered material to be banned. I would also think hard about books which incite crime, but this is a grey area. I'd be curious to know what your own thoughts are on any of this.

Is there any conceivable circumstance when a book should be removed from the shelves?
