Any top player in the 2018-20 period would have beaten Siegemund comfortably. Maybe not 6-1, 6-2. But look at the 2019 Wimbledon semis, and how easily Serena and Halep won. Their opponents were way better than Siegemund.

Also more damning is that Sabalenka never went far in the slams in 2018, 2019, or 2020. She was aged 20-22. She only started to go far in slams in the 2nd half of 2021, at age 23. Of course, this coincided with players like Serena, Osaka, Barty, Halep, Andreescu either dropping off or retiring. If Saba/this era is so great, why didn't she win during that strong 2018-20 era? And you can't use age because Saba in 2018-20 is older than current Mirra Andreeva.
Why dont we stick to the present okay, again your assuming a top player in that period would have won? again Wouda Shoulda Coulda situations which I dont get involved in okay thanks

If you want me to stick to the current event, then Mirra Andreeva is playing at a higher level than any other player in this tournament. She is locked in, and the way she dispatched Emma Navarro yesterday (I haven't seen that level from any other player so far), I believe Mirra will be holding up the Venus Rosewater dish on Saturday.

Saba losing the first set proves how weak this era of women's tennis is. A player like Siegemund would have never gotten this far at a slam, let alone challenged a top player in 2019. I can't imagine Siegemund being competitive against 2019 Serena. Even that version of Serena would have won that match 6-1, 6-2.
You can't make that assumption. I've seen most if not all of Serena's matches over her career. She had issues with players who junk balled her. Cornet ring a bell? Laura plays a lot like Alize. Cornet used to take all the air out of the ball causing Serena to generate her own pace. Sometimes, she figured it out, but more times than most she was frustrated and made a gazillion errors and lost the match.

We also know tennis is about matchups. While Serena had issues w/ Cornet, Vee did not. Vee ran circles around Alize, her drama and her tactics

Saba finally holds at 5-2 in the 2nd set, Laura has been giving her all kinds of different balls disrupting her play
Saba has righted the ship for now in the 2nd set 62
This match is still in the balance going 3 sets
This match is driving me to Drink!

Saba survives 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, but her level of play has been lackluster this whole tournament. This level isn't going to get it done against the Andreeva that beat Emma Navarro.

Finally The Match From Hell Is Over
Saba 46 62 64
Laura used all her delaying tactics in the match to no avail, she should have received more time violations
I can stop drinking now

When you understand the game :Laura has and does against her opponents especially big hitters like Saba then we can have a conversation of tactics
If you watch the match at all, Laura was up to her bag of delaying tricks, she should have got more time violations to begin with

Laura's tactics doesn't explain Saba's lackluster level of play during the tournament, even before this match. Saba isn't winning the tournament with the level of play she has displayed so far at this tournament. I can guarantee you that. Look at the level Mirra played at yesterday against Navarro. Has Saba even come close to that level of play so far at Wimbledon? No.

A young lady that has been playing good ball on the grass, all grass season is Amanda Anisomova she has made the SF defeating Pavs 61 76(9)
Well done Amanada, sad for Pavs as these 2 ladies are 2 of my fav players on the tour, sadly they were playing each other for a place in the SF

Yes, I watched all of Saba's matches. I haven't been impressed in her level of play during any of her matches at Wimbledon this year. Saba has come out flat for pretty much all of her matches, with the exception of the first round match. You cannot blame Siegemund's tactics for that. If she plays like she has on Thursday or Saturday, she's not lifting the trophy. It's going to catch up to her. She needs to perform at a higher level to win the tournament. Her level so far in this tournament is not good enough to beat Mirra or Iga in a potential final.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Amanda won. Saba hasn't put it all together so far at Wimbledon. But I just feel like it's Mirra's time.

BTW,
Amanda Anisimova took a mental break back in May 2023 and didnt touch a racket for 1 month with her ranking falling outside the Top 400
Today Amanda advances to her first GS SF on grass
Kudos Amanda!

BTW In regards to Sabalenka some champion players win ugly, though to her credit she honed in her emotions, tried to neutralize the junk balls from Laura and also her tactical stalling in the match today.

5 time champion Iga Swaitek defeats Liudmila Samsonova 62 75 to reach her first GS SF at Wimbledon
Iga has reached the SFs in all 3 Majors in 2025
Iga will face the winner of Bencic or Andreeva in the SFs

And she'd have a great chance to make the final unless Mirra can stop being a typical teen and get back to being a pro tennis player.

Mirra's serve has been found wanting in this match today on the big points
Bencic has been a surprise to me on grass, still on a faster surface her game excels
Bencic did serve for the match, boken and it went to a TB for the 2nd set
Bencic d Andreeva 76(3) 76(2) well played Belinda, this is Belinda's first SF at Wimbledon
Belinda into the SFs where she will play Iga Swaitek
