Except Cobolli broke back.I hate to say this, but this appears to have turned into just another one of those nice, practice sessions for Novak! The kid "red-lined" enuf in the 1st set to win that TB, but it's happened B4 w/ Novak serving for a set! I hope Cobolli can continue to improve and build on this result and not be just another pretty face that disappoints in the end!![]()

Don Hi!Cobolli is gaining momentum again in the 3rd. He was down a break, but now he leveled the match.
I'm going to hold out hope he can still beat Djokovic.Don Hi!
Cobolli really has come of age at Wimbledon, I have always had high hopes for him, a good athlete, solid off both wings, 2 things that have held him back has been his discipline and he needed to improve his serve, which he has done on both counts.
He suffered a bad shoulder injury at the start of this season as well
I dont expect him to beat Novak, making his first QF at a major, I hope he can take the positives from Wimbledon and build on them for the rest of the year
While he's already 22, I think we need to look at Shelton like he's a couple years younger, due to his overall late career trajectory (started playing at age 12). Meaning, he's more like a 20 year old and thus will reach peak level in 2-3 years, at age 24-25, and have a better second half of his twenties than his first. There's still a lot of "noise" and fiddly bits in his game, but there's a lot of ability and a strong mentality, in my opinion.Shelton looked rushed on his fhand during the match and had to hit many bhands that could have been runarounds in slower conditions eg clay
Shelton protects his bhand much better on clay than on grass
Ben was always going to be limited in how he can actually hurt Red. While his return has improved, it's not where it needs to be to challenge the top 10 yet. Serve is good, but could be more consistent when it really matters. To me, he's still green w/ rally tolerance and point construction. Knowing when to pull the trigger, etc.who thought Shelton would be the tougher test today. I'm actually a bit disgusted
The ability is there, just pointing out what happened his fhand was disappointing to me in the match and also 16/86 points returning? some thing he needs to address, he is young and has the time, still I would prefer another coach than his dad, to take him to the next levelWhile he's already 22, I think we need to look at Shelton like he's a couple years younger, due to his overall late career trajectory (started playing at age 12). It appears it's enough to annoy the ole man. Who knows, maybe he grabs another set and forces a 5 setter.
Which was the case in the 1st set TB..Serve is good, but could be more consistent when it really matters.
Yeah, I hear you.The ability is there, just pointing out what happened his fhand was disappointing to me in the match and also 16/86 points returning? some thing he needs to address, he is young and has the time, still I would prefer another coach than his dad, to take him to the next level
Yep. I've seen a few of his TB's over the year. As a big server, his record isn't as good it should be.Which was the case in the 1st set TB..
If it goes to five, I think Cobolli actually has a chance against the old man. Sure, Novak is steel in five sets, but he's also 38.It appears it's enough to annoy the ole man. Who knows, maybe he grabs another set and forces a 5 setter.
Remember, he's a college guy so he'll be a few years behind everyone else in terms of maturity anyway. But MM and I have been screaming for a new coach for the last 2 years. He needs a new voice that can get him to the next level.Yeah, I hear you.
It may be that we're seeing glimmers of the maladies held by Lost Gens I and II lingering in some of the younger guys. Whether it is entitlement, lack of discipline and/or a willingness to put in the hard work, or just too many selfies. But unlike the Lost Era, they have Sincaraz to shine the light. Meaning, everyone playing right now is in their orbit and has them to shoot for. It isn't the same as the looming dread of the Big Three hanging over you. They can look at Sincaraz and say, "Hey, they're kids like us. If they can do it, why not me?"
Italian mafia.Look at F3 sitting in Cobolli's box. I didn't even think he was still in London.
