You mentioned this early, and I'm not clear why this is good, or what is so bad about points going to the wire for Turin? Who was screwed because Musetti got in? (And I realize he only got in because Djokovic bowed out.)

You know how it is! It's the American way to kvetch about absolutely everything looking for change! It's just gone international w/ the infection spreading world-wide! You know the old saying, "the more things change, the more they stay the same!" :lol6: My biggest complaint is that "players complain!" It's so offensive; esp. w/ the women's YEC winner, Rybakina taking away over $5M! This is the 1st time I can recall a women's event outpaying the men! I remember when BJK making $100K on the Virginia Slims Tour in a season made news back in the early 70's! :astonished-face::angry-face::yawningface:

I think it is fair because at least the players in 2026 for the ATP finals, after Paris will have time to prepare for the ATP Finals,
Novak told Musetti at the net after he won he was withdrawing? he had that shoulder injury all week and knew he wasnt playing the finals to me that is just selfish and I also have a problem with a Top Ten player, playing in a ASTP250 tournament for starters, at least in the WTA they have curtailed that from happening
BTW,
Fritz also has to play back to back days because Musetti got in late? the entire group should have started yesterday. Not Fritz issue that it came down to the last day.

Isn’t it good for the fans that Novak played? I think fans at a 250 would be chuffed at the rare opportunity to see tennis royalty.

Fritz shouldn’t have been affected by any of this, for sure, but I think these late dramas with qualification are great for the sport..

He was only playing so he can surpass records, that is one of the main reasons he is hanging around also Greece is now his home tournament, which the family owns,, I have no respect left for Novak after what he did when we were locked down when Covid was on and he lied and cheated to get into Australia with the help of Craig Tiley, Melbourne became a circus,
No I stand by what I said earlier I dont think it is fair for players, going down to the wire, I am glad that the cut off point will be Paris Masters, also I feel that ATP should look at curtailing any Top Ten players from playing a ATP250 event, like they have done in the WTA,

Well, we agree on that. Chap would sell his own ma into slavery if it would get him through to the second round of a 250…

Well, if the family owns the tournament, isn't he also playing to make them money? Is there anything wrong with playing tournaments to pad the total? Not a fan, as you know, but playing devil's advocate here. There is also a limit to the 250s that top players can play. If he hasn't surpassed it, he's within the rules.

That said, you KNOW that the internet will care if Djokovic reaches or pass Roger's total titles with 250s.

I think I get your point about cutting off the YEC players at Paris, though I'm not sure I agree. Your point is that they should have time to rest and prepare, and not still be fighting for the slots. I'd argue, if it's that close, they'd prefer to get to fight for it. It's worth money and prestige. Do you think that Musetti wouldn't want to have been in Turin? Would he have been in Turin if he hadn't made the final in Athens, whether Djokovic dropped out, or not? The YEC is a privilege. If you qualified early, good for you. If you're one of those fighting to the end for a place or an alternate, wouldn't you want all the options on offer?

I'm fine if you have a better argument. You pay more attention than I do. I just think that all points should count until the end of the tournaments.

You're kidding right? If anyone's loaded up on local/home 250's it's Roger! How can you insinuate Djokovic would need to surpass Roger in tournaments utilizing 250 events when you already can figure outside of the box he's already well ahead! Djoker owns the records for Majors & Masters, so obviously he hasn't played as many 250's as Fedal! He needed the practice in 2022 being banned from 2 majors so it made me think of Tele-Viv & Astana that Novak played once to get in some court work near the end of the season! :face-with-hand-over-mouth::fearful-face::yawningface::face-with-tears-of-joy:

I have already checked the rule ages ago there isnt any limit for a top ten player to play ATP250 tournaments? sorry I wish the ATP would take the same action as the WTA has curtailing top ten players playing these tournaments, in my view leave them for lower ranked players to build their ranking than a top ten player, Novak has played 2 ATP250 tournaments this year, his only 2 titles for the season
Novak has had ongoing injury with his shoulder the reason he wont play YEC this year, he must of known beforehand btw? he told Lorenso at the net he would not play in Turin? I mean who rips their bloody shirt off winning a ATP250 tournament? of course the Drama King Novak? Novak has said he wants to play until the Olympics in LA, MEH!
I mean he had a great draw in Shanghai Masters and still could not win, he had the physio out in every match, let him play on I have no respect for him what so ever, I already made that clear when he lied and cheated to get into the AO when we were all in lock down mode, moving on
The playing schedule had to re done because of Novaks late withdrawal btw, meaning now Fritz has to play back to back days cause Musetti got in
Anyway from next year the cut off point will be the Paris Masters, which in my opinion is far, gives the players time to prepare eg a new court
Musetti was beaten today by Fritz the first time since 2022, he didnt have much time to rest and prepare, which just backs up my thoughts why it is in the best interests of all players with the new cut off point being the Paris Masters..quite frankly all players from the start of the season have enough time till Paris Masters to qualify for the ATP Finals

There's nothing wrong with the points going down to the wire, I'd just rather have the cutoff event be of more prestiege. The US Open should be the cutoff event. I feel like more people would tune into the ATP/WTA Finals if it did follow the US Open.

The casual fan will remember who wins/plays deep in the slams, like the French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open. Not who won some random 250/500 events in the fall. I feel they would be better served earlier in the season. Either start the season in November or just sprinkle them throughout the season. Sprinkling them throughout the season would at least move some of the US Open swing and the US Open itself to a more comfortable part of the season.

You’re not thinking of fans. Nick Kyrgios was like this on a podcast recently. With a saintly posture he was sympathising with lowly ranked players not earning enough money - and in the same breath he called for Antwerp to be cancelled and the season to end after the US Open, to hell with the fans.

And to hell with the players who need these tournaments to make money. Look at the bloke who won Shanghai, beating his cousin. It was a dream event, but that was because it was a prestigious event.

I still don’t get what you mean by saying the US Open should be moved to a more comfortable part of the season.

It’s in summer…

I know we got lucky the last few years, but it can get very hot in NYC in late August/early September. When Maureen Connelly completed the calendar slam, these were the high/low temperatures in NYC:

1953-08-289873
1953-08-299976
1953-08-309876
1953-08-3110078
1953-09-019775
1953-09-0210277

This is just way too hot. If we get this kind of record heat, and this could very well happen next year (odds are, the pendulum will swing the other way after 2 comfortable years), the result could be devastating. You could see it in Shanghai, as well, with players struggling with the heat and humidity.

There's a reason why the Atlanta tennis tournament didn't survive. They played it in July, which is way too hot and humid.

Tennis Does Not Revolve Around the USO Period Phil,
The Paris Masters is now the cut off point for the year end finals!
BTW Tennis is a Summer Sport played all around the world
Gee I have been to the AO when the temps were 43c Hot and Humid! and I dealt with it well BTW!

So when do you propose the Americans are able to hold their GS tournament?

During Wimbledon? :popcorn

From their results at lower level events this fall, Elizabeth Mandlik and Patrick Kypson have clinched their reciprocal wild cars that AO gives to American's
Kypson has been especially strong at #117, he would've been one of the higher seeds in the qualies draw

If I were in charge, I'd make it the cutoff event for the ATP/WTA Finals. I'd move it to October, in the cooler and more comfortable autumn weather.

All the events Wimbledon and after should be shifted at least a month later. Events like Washington DC, Cincinnati, and the US Open are not safe (way too hot and humid) to play in their current slots.

Thank goodness your not in charge!
Tennis is a Summer Sport
Moving USO its events till Autumn would never work, the players whinge about the tennis season being too long now?
Come down our Summer Tennis in Australia we get even hotter and humid temps then that in the USA,
Players have to adjust to the playing conditions Period! there are heat rules in now btw., also fans visiting have to adjust to watching tennis in warmer, hot conditions, gee I have been doing it for many years and survived!
Again Tennis dosent revolve around the USA Or USO!

Don’t forget that tennis has to suit the fans too, who might take time off in summer to watch a few days play. But autumn is late for these events. I don’t know what the weather is like in New York in October, but early September is late enough.

I think logistically, such a huge upheaval in the calendar is not likely to take place…

It wont happen, as I posted Tennis is a Summer event, moving the USO in Autumn because it is cooler, isnt a plausible reason to
Players whinge now the season is too long, can you imagine the out cry if he went any longer
Players have to adjust to all playing conditions which include weather conditions
Come on down to our Aussie Summer, it can be brutal at times, hotter and more humid than the USO and tournaments, players and fans seem to survive

Absolutely. Plus, it stretches the season for the biggest tournaments to be so spread. Great as tennis is after the USO, if players had to wait so long for the final slam, I think it would be to the detriment of the event - and sport - itself. There would be a long lull with less interesting stuff going on..

Musetti just said in his press conference that he will not be playing for Italy in the up coming DC finals
Italian team will be,
Cobilli
Sonego
Berrettini
Bolelli
Vavassori
