Seeing I was called into work at 7pm I missed both s/finals I will re-watch later today
I think people under estimated Pliskova, she had only lost one set of tennis before the s/final
I have met her personally at Sydney tournament she is a 'Zen' type person and delightful.
Ash Barty will not loose more than a total of 6 games to the Twin stiff

We shall see I just soo excited that Ash has got to the final,it has been her dream, she won the Junior title at Wimbledon, always touted as a player with her skills that could win on the grass.

I am surprised that Pliskobot managed to pull this one.

I thought finally we will have a WTA GS final pitting #1 vs. #2 and it turned out that is not to be.

Does anyone know when was the last time such a thing happened in WTA GS.

OK, the actual answer:

2018, Australian Open. Wozniacki (2) d. Halep (1)

That is only about three years ago; but psychologically, it feels as though it would have been long time ago (with all those upsets happening again and again).

And the time previous to that was the 2015 Auzzie Open. At the start of the tournament it was a 4 way race for #1 between Serena, Pova, Simo and P3tra. Whoever won the title would claim #1. Serena defeated Maria in straight sets to retain #1 and Pova stayed at #2.
