It may or may not be about helping specific players because we are talking about an individual (tournament director) with the power to tweak the surface and to go with heavier or lighter balls depending on their preference. I mean it's clear as day that Wimbledon and the USO are significantly slower than they used to be. The Federer fans will pack the stadiums even if their boy is playing on extremely slowed down surfaces.
True, but in the case of Wimbledon they've alway been a strange lot. Wimbledon Powers have always prided themselves on being different and above everyone else ( only white clothing, no play on Sunday, etc) and with them I'm thinking it has more to do with the damn overhead costs of grass court tennis. Is the grass they use now different from the past? I do agree what balls they used have a lot to do with it, and TD's do pick that.
Wonder if in their case, it had more to do with Andy Murray and what best suited his game...who knows:?
