How come Cali or anyone else has not yet started a thread yet titled "there is a reason why Novak has won only one USO so far"?
Cali is still gathering material for his next masterpiece: How did Rafa Nadal ever won a single match? Ever?

They're replaying '11 USO again on ESPN Classic! I turned over just in time to see Nadal running game again after 3 games of the 2nd set; left the court after a particularly long service game (15 min.) and made NOLE wait! All he could do was raise his arms imploring to the umpire, "WTF?" ;-) Luckily it didn't work and was made into a really tough year for Nadal where he was a perpetual runner-up in 1000's and 3 other majors through '12 AO to Djokovic! Roger should have such a recent record against his "so called" rival! Hard to call it that with such a losing record against Rafa! ;-(

That was obviously before Nole was "running game" :cover on Rafa with a MTO at the start of the fourth... :popcorn

Nole learned from the best at it! I always saw it as retribution for all the matches Rafa stole from people; esp. Roger! As you can tell, I've never had a high opinion of him;; right up there with how I felt about Agassi! :nono

The odds after the draw: Nole leads the pack, Andy and Fed tied, but considerably behind him. All the rest are way behind these three.

Novak Djokovic 6/5
Roger Federer 9/2
Andy Murray 9/2
Stan Wawrinka 16
Kei Nishikori 20

Ralph has 40 odds. AP, if you put $100 on Ralph, you will get back $4,100.

I'd put even more down that Ralph doesn't even get to the semis! :dodgy: :popcorn :ras:

With Federer being King of Grass and Nadal being King of Clay, I've seen people trying to push Djokovic as the King of Hard Courts recently. But with only one USO to his name so far, he really needs to win this 3 or 4 more times if he is going to make that moniker stick. If he has 7 or 8 AOs and then 3 or 4 USO, along with all his Masters HC titles, he could have a good case for it.

So from that point of view, Djokovic really needs to win this USO. Does he want to be King of HC or King of Down Under?

Are there any preview/hype show (in any chancel other than TTC) sometime this weekend in US before the USO starts?

There is an episode of Sports center Sunday devoted entirely to preview the USO.

Brought to us by the same swat-squad of savy reporters that brings us things like "The Fab Five" or "Tennis-is-not-important-enough-to-be-put-in-the-main-menu-Let's-talk-some-more-about-Tebow-and-Manziel-or-how-fat-Rex-Ryan-is-or-isn't-this-year.

Before tennis took off and you had to search for majors to be played on TV, I probably would be looking to, but since TCC, ESPN full coverage, and ESPN Classic matches, supposition isn't worth it IMO! Someone's going to be upset; not like the old days where all of "The Big 4" make the semis! :nono  :dodgy: :p :ras: :cover

This MTO though showed signs of obvious injury unlike pretty much any I've ever seen Nadal take and I think most will agree. Nadal before and after MTOs has run like a MF with no apparent difference whatsoever. If you think Novak serving first serves slower than Andy Murray's WTA 2nd serve isn't proof that Novak tweaked his back in that 4th set of the USO 2011 I don't know what to say other than there's a sale at Specsavers.

I was pointing out the obvious prejudice, which exists whenever "certain posters" write about Nadal... :dodgy:

At the moment Djokovic is probably at number three behind Federer and Sampras regarding success on Hard Courts. By winning the US Open he would pretty much tie Sampras for second. To pass Federer (assuming Federer doesn't win another) he would need 10 Grand Slam titles on HC. With 6 AOs and 3 USOs he would more or less equal Federer. If Djokovic reaches 9 titles with less than 3 US Open wins Federer's more balanced resume might be slightly superior.

So for Djokovic to really become a contender for being the most successful Hard Court player winning the US Open this year is probably a must.

A few household names of players who failed to qualify through into the main draw:

Almagro, Dodig, Montanes.

I did not realize Almagro has sunked so low that he had to play quals in the first place.:cover

Tignor rolled the dice and doomed Novak.

I think Tignor hot it correct once though: Wimbledon?

The jinx seems to be pretty much over this year. He has picked Nole to win a lot this year...and he has won a lot.
