Tournament Info
The Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, also known as the Trofeo Conde de Godó, stands as one of the most prestigious clay-court tournaments on the ATP Tour. First held in 1953, the event has been staged every year at the historic Real Club de Tenis Barcelona-1899, the oldest tennis club in Spain. Its rich heritage and elegant setting make it a cornerstone of both Spanish tennis and Barcelona’s social calendar.
As an ATP 500 tournament, the Barcelona Open plays a key role in the European clay-court season, serving as a vital lead-up to Roland Garros. The slow clay courts reward tactical intelligence, endurance, and mastery of topspin—qualities that have defined many of the tournament’s greatest champions.
No player is more closely associated with the event than Rafael Nadal, who holds a record 12 singles titles in Barcelona. His dominance at the tournament has helped cement its global reputation and inspired generations of Spanish players. Over the decades, the event has also showcased numerous world-class competitors, blending tradition with elite-level competition.
Beyond the tennis, the Barcelona Open offers a distinctive Mediterranean atmosphere. Set in one of Europe’s most vibrant cities, the tournament combines world-class sport with Catalan culture, fine cuisine, and a relaxed coastal charm. This unique blend of heritage, prestige, and sporting excellence ensures the Barcelona Open remains one of the most celebrated stops on the ATP Tour.

Barcelona, with 4.7 million inhabitant's is the second most-populace city in Spain, and 7th most in the E.U. It is a major cultural capital in Europe, as well as home to a pretty popular football club, FC Barcelona. A major feature of Barcelona is its "modernist" architecture by Antoni Gaudi, particularly the as-yet unfinished Sagrada Familia Cathedral, La Pedrera Apartments and the whimsical Parq Guell, and the city is also home to the museums of Picasso, Miró and Tàpies, all local-boys-made-good.

Although beautifully situated on the Mediterranean, for much of its history Barcelona was known as "the city that turns its back on the sea." This has changed in the last two decades, with the city embracing its beaches and waterfronts. La Barceloneta, one such rejuvenated neighborhood, is now a very popular beach in summer, as well has having numerous seaside restaurants with the best fish and best paella in town. On the upper end of food, Barcelona is the epicenter of one of the most innovative food movements in the new century, spearheaded by Ferran Adria and his ElBulli restaurant.
