Crazy. In one instance, a war veteran who is suffering from PTSD went for a consult because he was in bad shape. He was actually OFFERED MAID ! I mean, can you believe this? The person you go for help tells you to not worry about it, we'll just kill you...It was supposed to be that if the patient did not bring it up, it was never supposed to be offered.
I do not recognize this country anymore.

They do it with young kids and trans too - reel them in compassionately and then force their program on them. It’s puke inducing…

she did a bit of a Kamala and didn't really stake out a position. Say what you like about HRC, that woman would have given a proper answer. It's ironic because the one time it was absolutely necessary for her to confront an issue, the emails, she totally fumbled. Much like Trump is doing with Epstein now, which makes me chuckle. I see options for a run the Senate, because the strong feeling in New York is that Schumer is done. As I said to Kieran, I don't see the Dems putting up a woman in 2028. Youth is trending, but women are not.

There is another hidden danger with this. If a person is deemed unfit to make medical decisions for themselves then the state could make them.

This MAID thing in Canada..Medical Assistance In Dying....Some of us pointed out how it was really a slippery slope and it is super sad to see that we were right. It was supposed to be just for terminally ill people with a lot of safe guards in place. I will be honest, it still is for the most part but more and more groups are being included , like mental illnesses, disabilities...This example below is just sad.

MAID now is the 5th leading cause of death in Canada.

It does sound like your MAID laws need some revising. But it doesn't mean that, in the right circumstances that a death with dignity is not a good idea, and shouldn't be legal. I'm talking about seriously end-of-life and nothing more to be done but give morphine and watch people suffer. We do better by our animals.

In other cases, like mental illness, and other long-term illnesses, I do not doubt that people suffer, but these are not end of life situations. There can always be new treatments and new medications. I don't see that doctors should be complicit in a straight-forward suicide, if I can make such a callous-seeming distinction.

In all cases, the person should have left a medical directive when they were compos mentis, and two doctors should sign off. I think that's the most usual protocol in the US, where it is legal.

I just addressed this in my above, in terms of strict circumstances under which it should even be considered. I don't see how there is ever one where the state would step in. I've never even heard that concern expressed in arguments against. Usually the concerns involve self-interested family members, for example.

IMO, and in many of the statutes that have passed in the US, if you haven't made a directive while you were of sound mind to say you wanted no extreme measures at the end, and that you would take this option, then there is nothing to be done until you are dead, or brain-dead. At the very least, you have to have a DNR to avoid extreme measures at the end. Otherwise, the medical staff is required to do everything to keep you alive. In the US, where the state has intervened, it has been to prevent the family from withdrawing life support, and to keep a person who is brain dead artificially alive, in some creepy notion of "sanctity of life."

Sigh.. I'm not sure why it's so difficult to understand. This isn't about Christmas, so much as it's about trying to foist other cultures and traditions on British people. Immigrants come to the UK because there is typically a deficit either culturally or politically where they flee from. Instead of the left trying to help them adjust to the UK, they seem to spend more time trying to make the rest of us more like them. Make it make sense!

Murat was actually talking about Canada. I see circumstance where the state (or the healthcare agency acting as the proxy) can do because in the UK it was already done. There was a huge scandal in the UK with the Liverpool Care Pathway. Across the board in the west, Euthanasia is being introduced. I'm sure the Democrat Death Cult will be in favour.

This is just tragic. I can’t imagine any circumstance in which assisted suicide was the correct course of action for someone like this. It seems more a situation in which psychiatry/psychology failed.

Assisted suicide for the (truly) terminally ill? Absolutely. As @Moxie put it, we do better with animals than humans in that area. But for someone who’s sad because of their diabetes, blindness, etc? No.

While suicide would also have been a tragic outcome here, at least it wouldn’t have been government assisted.
