I don't that he's "too old" if you take into account that he played college tennis and just graduated in 2024. He's getting a late start. I hope he does well.Spizzirri seems like one of the small stories of the AO so far. He's probably too old to be projected as a future star, but the guy can play and could rise into seeding territory at the least.
It's true it's time to get in some night matches, anyway. Though it's been handy being able to watch him at what is a normal hour here.Moxie
The new temp for Tuesday is now predicted to be 45c when Alcaraz plays his QF match, his team should get in now and request a night match

But speaking of the weather, this reminds me of one of the things I love about watching the Australian Open: that when it's cold and dark here, I can see the people in their summer clothes, sitting in the sun, and fanning themselves. It makes me feel warmer, just to watch. A little bit of summer, in the dead of our winter. Most of the US is getting a big storm this weekend, with arctic temperatures. It's currently -8C here. It was -13 when I went out this morning. Our snow is supposed to start after midnight tonight, and go on through most of tomorrow. Maybe 12"?
Enjoy your warmth, and the daytime tennis!![]()

Well, yes, there is the global climate change problem, which is probably why it's so infernally hot in Oz, and why we're having a nearly continent-wide storm here in the US, which is rare. But forgive me if I go with my own glass-half-full version of enjoying the AO.Funny, but back in the day, I had the opposite feel since we couldn't see the AO early on! I didn't get Cable until the 80's & we barely got much news out of it w/ so few top stars going "down under!" I always heard of the high winds & bugs! The few matches I did get to see w/ Martina & Chris, it didn't seem too oppresive,, but that was back in Kooyong! A couple women's finals in the 90's & 2000's we started hearing about the heat so bad, the court was softening! Players were dropping like flies w/ injuries! Global warming is probably making it worse! END RANT!![]()
Well, I'm more talking about him being too old to become an elite player, at least based on precedents. I don't think there's ever been a player who showed up in the top 100 at 24 and then become a top 5 guy. It is sort of like starting a race late - no matter how fast you run, you're not going to win. I don't even know how talented he is, just that he pushed Sinner, which is impressive, and even if he stalls out in the 20-30 range, that will make him an interesting character - like the Vacherot of 2026.I don't that he's "too old" if you take into account that he played college tennis and just graduated in 2024. Please it has been Heat Wave Conditions for days on end with high humidity and I can assure you it isnt great at all, give me Winter anytime of the year at least you can put layers on and get warm, not in these heat wave conditions, you have a cold shower and then start sweating, UGH!It's true it's time to get in some night matches, anyway. Please Oz has always had hot temps in our Summer, nothing new at all, I remember at school temps were over 100F and I am nearly 70, forget about the global climate change.Well, yes, there is the global climate change problem, which is probably why it's so infernally hot in Oz, and why we're having a nearly continent-wide storm here in the US, which is rare. If you're talking about 25 Slams, then probably. But what about Stan? What about some notion that serious players mature around 24, which Spizzirri is. (And he just turned 24 in Dec. He's a year and a half older than Alcaraz.) I'm not saying he's about the be the next big thing, ni mucho menos, but it seems early to call him "too old." All I'm looking at is that he pushed Sinner, and not just for one set. Now, Miss Margaret can complain that Jannik was suffering in the heat, and Fonseca was having back issues, but as you pointed out, Spizzirri is still a small interesting story of the AO so far. Not more, not less. Maybe he got a bit lucky with what was in front of him, and they were a bit ragtag, but he didn't just roll over.Well, I'm more talking about him being too old to become an elite player, at least based on precedents. Excuse me go back and read my post that I congratulated Spizziri for pushing Jannik thanks? I always give credit where it is dueIf you're talking about 25 Slams, then probably. But what about Stan? I wasn't dissing you, Margaret. But, if you want to talk about context...Jannick "could hardly stand up??" I seem to have missed that part of the match. And I was watching when he lost the only set he lost.Excuse me go back and read my post that I congratulated Spizziri for pushing Jannik thanks? I always give credit where it is due
Spizzirri did have his chances to put Jannik away? when Jannik could hardly stand up let alone play tennis? lets put things in proper context thanks!
I suggest you watch the whole matchI wasn't dissing you, Margaret. But, if you want to talk about context...Jannick "could hardly stand up??" I seem to have missed that part of the match. And I was watching when he lost the only set he lost.
Go to the 3rd set he could hardly stand don't post until you have the correct factsI suggest you watch the whole match
Thanks
Novak almost had a USO disqualification moment again. He trashed a ball in anger towards a ball boy as if he forgot what are the consequences for such a thing.

They didn't show it on the highlights:
Possibly a couple of inches away from an automatic disqualification.
