Novak almost had a USO disqualification moment again. He trashed a ball in anger towards a ball boy as if he forgot what are the consequences for such a thing.

Yes, Spizzirri brought a lot to the match. Like Fiero, I'd never seen him play before either.
He's an alum of the University of Texas (my alma mater) so did his maturing on the college circuit. He featured a bit late last year.

Yeah, it overshadows his milestone win. It was his 102nd win at the Australian Open (tying Federer), and 400th win overall at the slams: https://www.espn.com/tennis/story/_...ic-secures-400th-grand-slam-win-extend-record

Cilic's 600th win will have to wait, as Ruud wins 6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
Cilic beat himself (as he often does). He had a break lead in 4th and the momentum, but lost focus and confidence in crucial moments.

Interesting fact: Only seeded players are through to the 4th round.

I am just watching Novak ( via video ) on replay, who hit the ball towards the ball kid, honestly Novak have you not learnt your lesson from the USO? learn to keep your bloody temper, under control ? you were inches away from being disqualified and rightfully so! and to make matters worse the umpire didnt even give Novak a warning? never been a fan of John Blom as a umpire period!

Bad luck Stan, you fought well in the match against Fritz, apparently Stan had a beer with Craig Tiley after his match on court :)
The soon to be dad Ruud defeated Cilic, well I got that wrong, has Casper become a Serve Bot he hit 25 Aces in that match :)

I know Alcaraz likes day matches and has another one today ( Sunday) against Paul, but hopefully he asks for a night match, temps by the way on next Tuesday are forecasted to reach 43c, also he needs more practice in the night, remember his QF match against Novak, also the mens final starts early evening at the AO
BTW the temp in Melbourne today Sunday will be partly cloudy and 24c compared to Saturday when the temp reached 40c

Spizzirri seems like one of the small stories of the AO so far. He's probably too old to be projected as a future star, but the guy can play and could rise into seeding territory at the least.

I still think that is a tad premature, that type of player has nothing to lose and can come out swinging, I mean I wasnt over impressed with him against Fonseca whose wasnt able to be competitive at all, with his lower back injury, for starters.
Also in his match with Sinner he had soo many chances when Jannik could hardly walk and he didnt take them

Darren Cahill gets my vote as the Most Valuable Coach so far at the AO, what he said to Jannik in the break in the 3rd set was just beyond Words!

In all seriousness Jannik and his team have to look more closely into his cramping, he had to withdraw last year due to cramping in a tournament, pickle juice can help, still, he did a training block in Dubai before Christmas, were the conditions are usually hot and humid.Yesterday the conditions were 'brutal' and they had to wait until the Extreme Stress heat went to level 5, before they closed the roof, playing in over 110F
for players and fans, and also the poor ball kids who were bent over and could not touch the ground because it was soo hot.

I didn't see a lot of the match, but I glanced at a TikTok vid where Sinner was admonished by the umpire for some reason! Jannik didn't appreciate it, then Spizzirri intervened siding w/ his opponent asking the umpire to reconsider! Wow, now there's another layer to go along w/ that timely save w/ the roof being closed! Sinner was given a reprieve as any top player vs some scrub no one knows! :astonished-face::angry-face::yawningface::fearful-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth:

Your player Novak is still lucky to be in the tournament, after nearly taking out a ball person, he would have been disqualified again and rightfully so, he has to learn to control that temper of his!
Also get your facts straight and read the Extreme Heat Policy when it reaches Heat Stress level 5 which it did in Sinners match the roof was closed., the same on MC arena and John Cain Arena
