As I predicted earlier Andreeva (8) could have a bit of a let down coming from Adelaide where she won the title, Vekic is no slouch on the hard courts.
Vekic wins the 1st set 64, Andreeva will have to take the scenic route if she wants to win her first round match
After Andreeva's slow start she turned the match around 46 63 60 over Vekic

BTW
The doubles competition starts today.

Madison Keys (9) starts her defence of her AO title, Madison picked up a abductor strain, a recurring injury for Madison in Brisbane and went to Adelaide where she was the defending champion, she lost to rising youngster Vicky Mboko. I dont think Madison will have any trouble in her first round match

Rybakina (5) and Bencic (10) the higher seeds in todays round should have no problem either

Pliskova and Sloane would have been a marquee match a few years ago.
Pliskova who is using her PR ranking, and Sloane Stephens came through qualies winning 3 straight matches, been off the tour with a foot injury
I think Stephens can win this match up., she has the current runs on the board

^ Some sublime highlights in the Coco Gauff reel. I haven't followed Women's tennis that closely for the last few years but definitely liking the increased variety where the focus isn't just on power baseline tennis. I always used to enjoy watching players like Aga (Radwanska) who didn't have the power, mix things up to be competitive. Ash Barty had a great varied arsenal, but I'm also liking Gauff who seems to have a great mix of tools but blended with power.

ummm, no.More like 10 years ago. Pliskobot vs. Lazy Bones. I will be sure to skip this one, though I doubt ESPN will even show it for me w/ the NCAA national championship on tonight

Playing the week before and reaching the title match is always a challenge for folks who start the major on Mon. I'm glad she turned it around.

Madi takes the first set in a breaker. Tuning in for the second set.

Osaka has really out done herself with her 'Jellyfish' outfit when she walked on court carrying an umbrella and a white hat with a butterfly on it, apparently Nike let her design the outfit, quite frankly it belongs on a runway than a tennis court.....call me old fashioned give me a simple dress or top and skirt any day :)
Osaka (16) d Ruzic 63 36 64
