It's shades of Nadal win in 2010 US Open. Nadal only lost one set the entire championship that was the second set to arch rival Novak. Today we've seen Carlos in the final, also drop just one set also, the second set.

Right...good point, and well remembered about the 2010. Only dropped the one set in the final.

@Vince...I will agree you that Sinner didn't look his sharpest, and I think it's fair to say.
he was quite possibly injured, certainly to me, he looked restricted with his movement.

He'll be at 12 slams within a few years and this pace.

Carlos won U S Open twice now. He could well dominate the US Open for years to come.

Carlos has now reached the final of the last eight tournaments he's been in, winning six of them. I think the breakthrough we've been looking for has happened this year - and woe is the rest of the tour. It remains to be seen, though, how long he can maintain it, and how consistently. I'm curious how he'll end the year in indoor hardcourts, which has been pretty weak for him. But 2025 Carlos is a different level from 2022-24 Carlos, so who knows.

Barring injury? You're kidding? The way they play these days, it's so hard on them they can't even play consecutive weeks at times! They all; almost every complains of injuries, mentally spent, or just plain exhausted! I had no dog in this hunt! Alcaraz obvious the more talented, but was almost hoping Sinner would win his 3rd major & still wind up 2nd in the world! There was a distinct possibility w/ early loss of Carlos last season giving him few pts. to defend! ;-)

Look at that !

Double the winners by Carlos but on the flip-side just one (the only one) break-point converted by Sinner.

That's not like him at all which would indicate that he possibly was injured.

Some new guys will come along. Can't see any of the current crop challenging Sinner or Alcaraz, can any of you ?

For the sake of the sport, there better be some new faces that comes along.

Kelli will close this chat later, but I'm going back to the regular thread, as I see some are already there.

Carlos is also now at a 90% wins: 54-6. If he stays over 90%, it will be only the 25th player season.

Players with 90% wins in a season:

5 Lendl
4 Connors, Borg, Federer
2 Nadal, Djokovic
1 Vilas, McEnroe, Sinner, Alcaraz

Fonseca looks like he'll be in there. Mensik already has a MS 1000. But I think it will mostly come from the younger crop.
