Alcaraz says he practiced with a 'leg sleeve' ( I watched his practice video yesterday with the leg sleeve on, he moved well with it on) to see how he feels with it and confirms he felt great so he will also use it during hi matches in Rome

Well it is all happening in the Italian Open, they announced on the side screen of Campo Centrale ( with sound) btw a match is currently being played inside, the new pope is American Robert Prevost, first time an American Pope ever! he will be called Pope Leo XIV .BTW I read he used to play amateur tennis many years ago :) and is a Alcaraz fan!

Fabio Fognini who received a wild card has played his last match at the Italian Open, defeated by Fearnley 62 63

Solid 1st round win from Tien over Opelka, moved the tall man around the dirt and returned his serve well, a tight 2nd set TB, 64 76(11)

I didn't, actually, but I would bet someone else did. During a point, in which he was on the defensive, he put his hand in his pocket, took a ball out of it, tossed it on the ground, to stop the point (According to ATP rules, when a ball falls from a player's pocket, a "let" is called. If it falls a second time, then the player loses the point).

Too bad for him it was caught on camera.

I do not want to keep a list either, but lately those little things are rubbing me the wrong way.

Didn't @MargaretMcAleer mentioned it is the name of his new born baby? I understood from your post (maybe just my imagination) that he found a way to enter the tournament using his son's name.
I think the whole thing about Jarry being out was just a mistake. The rest was a joke.

BTW Marozan d Alcaraz in Rome 2023, in SS on his way to the round of 16
Too many UFE from Fonseca in his match today against Marozan and his usually great foot work on clay abandoned him sad to say
Fonseca can enter a couple of tournaments on clay before RG, thinking about it, would be a good idea.

I wouldn't say I'm concerned about the long term, but there's a sense of coming back to earth with Fonzie. I don't think we're in a space of "big breakout at any time" and 2025 is going to be more of a "get used to the ATP tour" year.

Watching replay now of Fonzie! Why do players do this; get all pumped after a simple UFE to get a mini-brk. only to DF twice? What an idiot! :slap:

Maybe it's a way to navigate tension? Get over it.

Francesco Passaro #101 takes out Dimitrov in straights. That's one Italian through today!

Carlos Alcaraz made rather short work of Lajovic, and seemed to be moving perfectly well.

Musetti moved through in straight sets over a qualifer Virtanen, I would have been extremely mad if Lorenzo bowed out in his first round match

Denis Shapovalov defeated in straight sets by a qualifer Gaubas, 63 64, DFs and then destroys his racket? like was it new in Shapo's world, all the talk that Shapo has found his game again after winning Dallas Open earlier this year, his results since then have been sub par.
I thought Griekspoor v Fils match would be a close contest, Fils impressive 62 62
Brandon Nakashima (28) received a walk over from Jordan Thompson
Another qualifer Kopriva dismissing Baez (32) in 3 sets 36 64 64, I didnt see that coming

A hard win for Rune on a terrible court with big holes in several places.

I heard him whinging about the court surface, they should rake the court in sit downs, or spray the surface with water also, then rake the court, and make sure it is suitable to play for the next match. and the 1st match on each day of play
I knew it would be a hard match for Rune in 3 sets, against Comesana, who can play on clay, Rune was 'clutch' when he needed to be to win the match ( I watched the 2nd and 3rd sets)

I watched the latter parts of Rune v. Comesana, too. Rune came good, but Comesana is one of my potential spoilers for RG. He's very good on clay, and I like his attitude.

What a game from Berrettini to break back late in the 2nd, just when Fearnley was serving to take the set. The crowd, unsurprisingly, goes wild!

EDIT: Berrettini won in 2nd set TB. He's looking very fit scrambling around the court like a much smaller man. Fitness trainer has been doing some good work, I'd say.
