Oh boy, I am getting outdated pretty fast in keeping up with WTA. I have never heard of #1 seed and can recognize only three of the top 8 seeds here.

That's because you're not paying attention. I've heard of them all.
Tormo gave ES all kinds of trouble in Charleston and RG. Krunic won s-Hertogenbosch last year and has a decent grass game. Bolsova just made a splash at RG getting to R16. The others are journeywomen.

I am not as bad as I thought I was. I now know all the top 8 seeds despite not knowing Sara.

Top half is loaded here. I note that the nearly-forgotten (is it me?) Sharapova is in.

Garcia just won a grass tournament against Vekic....I think she could have withdrawn from this tournament.

Wow...I stopped watching that match when Vecic had won the first. Good on Garcia for the win.

Kerbie just bossed Pova from the baseline. Too bad Maria couldn't come back during the clay season. She would have faired much better on the slow red instead of these faster courts.

I still cannot understand why Kerber does not do better on the clay, she has the game for it.
