The Tournament:

The inaugural edition of the Mallorca Open, an International-level WTA tennis event, will be held from 13 to 19 June 2016 at the Santa Ponsa Tennis Club in Mallorca, Spain. The venue features five permanent natural grass courts and a tennis academy

The Players:

French Open winner Garbiñe Muguruza heads the field, “I am really excited to have the opportunity to play on grass in Spain”, confessed Muguruza, last year’s Wimbledon runner up. “To have new tennis events in our country is fantastic news for us. Remember that until last year we only had Madrid”

About Mallorca

Mallorca is the largest island in the Balearic Islands archipelago, which are part of Spain and located in the Mediterranean.

The capital of the island, Palma, is also the capital of the autonomous community of the Balearic Islands. The Balearic Islands have been an autonomous region of Spain since 1983.[4] The Cabrera Archipelago is administratively grouped with Majorca (in the municipality of Palma). The anthem of Majorca is La Balanguera.
