Saying Coco isn't athletic as the Williams Sisters is like John Isner's serve doesn't yield and produce the same results as Sampras! Coco is an remarkable athlete and may be the BEST one since Venus and Serena. Coco needs to get someone like Sascha or Kamau Murray to work with how to construct the points to break down her opponents instead of trying to just be a defensive retriever. This can happen as soon as next year especially if you look at all of the recent first time grand slam winners over the past 4 years. IMO

Well only time will tell if she can hold up over the yrs.! I doubt we'll be celebrating another major win for her in the year 2040; at least not me! :)

Personalyl I feel Coco is a good athlete
I think it is unfair for anyone to compare her to the Williams Sisters, they were in a league of their own ( BTW Venus hasnt officially retired)
All players improve and grow at their own pace?
I know the media is putting a lot of pressure on Coco to be the 'new USA Super star" again I find that unfair, though I am not surprised it is happening.
Coco has technical faults in her game, I am surprised she arrives late on her fh wing and swats at the ball, bingo a UFE
I know I am sounding like a 'broken record' a good coach can fix those issues in her game,.
Seeing this is a post about the WTA finals....I leave this discussion for another day :)

Enjoyable tournament, but sad that it was held where it has the atmosphere of a 250/500 event
Agree, I think we all said it was a last minute decision from the WTA to hold it in Texas, maybe next year they will find the right venue and advertise it more, have the WTA run out of money lol!

A lot of it has to do with name recognition of the players and these ladies aren't capturing the minds and hearts of the average tennis fan! It hurt when Osaka started having troubles and then Barty retired! That couldn't have helped the tour! There's a vacuum at the top; sorta like when we lost Sampras, Courier, Agassi, etc.! Swiatek needs to step it up and stabalize the ranking b/c it's a mess! :fearful-face: :astonished-face::thinking-face:

Sabalenka and Garcia are contesting their biggest final,
Can both players bring their good form from their S/F wins into the final?
That question will be answered in tonight's final.
I have always been a huge Garcia fan and I am delighted with her performances this year.,she has a solid all round game.If she wins the final she will be ranked No 4, Sabalenka the same, the loser of this match will be ranked No 5.

There's been so much tennis on and will be for a while yet, Next Gen finals, ATP tour finals..
I decided to save all the WTA tour final matches, both singles and doubles and to watch them in order, during the long off season..

I've avoided hearing or seeing the results too.
Hence my not writing a word here.

This way they get the attention from me that they deserve, and I have lots of tennis to watch.

Defending champions Krejcikova/Siniakova have fought back to win the 2nd set 64 over Mertens/ Kudermetova
This match will go down to the wire, with a match t/break.

Yikes! What a collapse by both teams. Kudermetova/Mertens saved it just in the nick of time. They were up a set and break and at 4-3, they threw in a klunker game to get broken and fell off a cliff.

T/break it is for the 1st set 6 games all, impressive serving from both players, that Biomechanic Specialist Saba hired for her serve, seems to be paying off :)

Great performance in the WTA finals by Caroline Garcia and her reward today is she is the singles champion for 2022 defeating Sabalenka 76 (4) 64 and did not face a single BP on her service games all match
Garcia will go to a WTA ranking of No 4! Caroline has had a great second half of the year in 2022!
Sabalenka will go to a ranking of No 5, just made UFE at critical times in the match!
I doubt there will be any fluff left on the tennis balls, both ladies hammering the life out of the balls today :)

Fun Fact,

Caroline Garcia is the second French woman to win the WTA Finals, after Amelie Mauresmo (2005)
Great all court display of power hitting and volleying shown by Garcia in the WTA final.

I've avoided the results of this,
Not read this thread!

I am now watching it on Catch up (Amazon prime uk).

Ons vs Sabs on right now.
Bit dead in the crowd! I'm ignoring the empty seats.
Loving Hawkeye live after the Turin ATP amateur hour eye effort

It will give me some tennis during the tours drought that is late November/December.

I watched every match, one a morning during my morning workout / body maintenance sessions

I'd managed to avoid the result! - I had to close my eyes as I skipped over the matchups on screen as Amazon Prime shows you the latest matches first - should be programmable!

Overall very enjoyable.
Some good matches.

Happy to see Caroline Garcia win it.
What a year she's had.
I watched her matches earlier in the year ranked in the 70s!
It's taken her quite a while to get to this level of consistency.
Breath of fresh air is how I'd describe her.
Personally I find Swiatek a bit dead pan. I know, race face and that..

This bunch really do seem to get along pretty well.
Less ugly ego, more tennis!
Compare to the frosty Williams / Shriekapova years.

Onwards and upwards.

I wonder if it will ever be run as a joint thing with the ATP.

I know the WTA split away from ATP more and more a few years ago, to be more independent.
TennisTV used to cover both for example, I heard they will be merging more? Let's see.

I'm onto watching all the tour doubles finals matches of the of both ATP and WTA next.

Deep Purple once sang - "April is a cruel time, even though the sun may shine" etc etc..
December certainly is a cruel time for an avid tennis watcher..
