Whom would you rather see win 2016 Roland Garros?

Aw, Front, it's so poignant how much you wish he'd come back. Career cut short, for sure. He didn't end up being much more than an anecdote, but he was a really big one.

He's a bit of a tennis tragedy, and I'm hoping that Del Potro isn't going to be the next one. Soderling did that thing that no one ever seems to do: he backed up a massive upset with continued wins, and he rode it to the top 5. And then he upset Roger the next year. He was a real contender and threat. Without illness, there is every reason to believe he could have finally won at RG. I mean, Stan did, and they're not dissimilar.

I think Del Potro is sadly doomed to never be a contender anymore. He's still slicing like a butcher so his wrist is clearly not ok. You can only play safe for so long before it's clear you're doing it 'cos your wrist is not ok. Shame 'cos he was a threat to the top guys before all the surgeries but even after the first surgery to the right wrist, he never regained the strength to hit the forehand anywhere near as hard as before. Now he has that problem coupled with a gammy left wrist that can't hit a 2 handed backhand properly or a DTL backhand. He's toast against anyone good who'll exploit his bad luck.

I'm afraid you might be right. I agree the FH is not as powerful since the right wrist surgery, when before it was astonishing. Now he seems to be avoiding the two-hander half the time, opting for the slice. I keep hoping for the comeback, as you did for Soderling. But, realistically, it's hard to see Del Potro back up in the top 5 and contending for Majors. Too bad.

My first choice is always Rafa, other than that I'd like to see an Andy, Simon, or Berdych win. I like the unheralded players who've been consistent over the years.
