RJD, what kind of tournament is this? I could not find info on it. Tornado must be a great player. There is a girl who loves near me that is planning to turn pro. She wins women's open events and world titles, but got whipped by Tornado. I was surprised by the result. Looking forward to seeing this phenom someday. Her younger sis, too.

Venus IMO put this event on the map when she played and

won here twice ( 2009, 2010 ) a few years ago. Many wondered

at the time why she passed up a much bigger event to play it.

Its her maiden voyage on the WTA tour so not expecting her to

win the event or anything, but only hope its the beginning of a

notable career.

Top American junior Tornado Alicia Black will make her WTA Tour debut next week after receiving a wild card into the Mexico Open.

Aside from her flashy name — born Alicia Black, the family nicknamed her Tornado after she showed tennis talent at a very young age — the 15-year-old made a big splash last season, when she made the U.S. Open girls’ final as a wild card. She finished the season by winning a $10,000 ITF tournament in Amelia Island, Fla., and making the quarterfinals of both the Eddie Herr International Junior Championships and the prestigious Orange Bowl.

Black, the fourth-ranked junior, skipped the Australian Open in January to play two ITF tournaments in Florida. She’s yet to win a main-draw match in three events this year. Black gave a walkover in the final round of qualifying in Vero Beach and lost to No. 246 Chieh Yu-Hsu in the first round in Daytona Beach. In her third ITF start, she lost to No. 117 Vesna Dolonc in the first round in Midland, Texas.

Sloane blames her atitude on the media hype and seems satisfied

with being in about the same position she was in last year.

"Once you kind of make a breakthrough and you do a great result like they did in the semis of the Australia Open, people start to take notice, and start to analyze your game a lot [more] seriously."

Fellow players are not the only people watching Stephens and Bouchard carefully. The media and fans are also keeping close tabs on every step they take.
As for Stephens, it's not that her results have been horribly mediocre since her monumental 2013 Australian showing -- they've been a mixed bag of good and bad. What's most noticeable is how drastically her demeanor has changed.

Once a funny, chatty, friendly young lady, she has turned almost overnight into someone who lacks confidence on the court and is conflicted off the court. To compensate, she has developed an overactive attitude for still too little achieved.

After Australia, Stephens took a pass on playing Fed Cup, explaining to U.S. captain Mary Joe Fernandez that she had a wrist injury.

Fernandez was stunned to hear that Stephens was playing in the Qatar Total Open the next week. The Middle East trip didn't go well for 18th-ranked Stephens, who suffered back-to-back first-round defeats at Doha, Qatar, and Dubai.

When Stephens first faced the media after her loss in Dubai this week, there was no secret she preferred to be elsewhere and attempted to close down the conversation quickly.
Realizing that tactic wasn't going to work, she relented and offered a few solid answers.
One question she pondered was whether she would've preferred to have flown a bit more under the radar for a little longer?

"I think either way it probably would have been the same," she said.

Many are still watching and waiting on Stephens to join the top 10. The talent is there, but the jury is still out on the approach

Anybody know if the matches are being televised anywhere

TennisTV only seems to be showing ATP matches

Wonder what's up with that?

Tornado Alicia Black, 15, loses at Mexican Open in WTA Tour debut

Top-ranked American junior Tornado Alicia Black made her WTA Tour debut on Monday, losing to Bojana Jovanovski 6-4, 7-5 in the first round of the Mexican Open.

The 15-year-old wild-card entry played a competitive match against the 22-year-old Jovanovski, the sixth seed and 42nd-ranked player in the world. Jovanovski, who made the fourth round of the Australian Open and third round of the French Open last year, needed 1 hour and 55 minutes to advance. She was broken when serving for the match at 5-4 in the second set.

“Had such an amazing experience here in Mexico!” Black tweeted. “Even tho I lost I got a standing ovation, a moment I will never forget. Muchas gracias!! :)”

Black, the fourth-ranked junior and 2013 U.S. Open girls’ finalist, is still seeking her first main-draw victory of 2014. She has also played three tournaments on the ITF Women’s Pro Circuit.
