I saw "Sinners," and thought it was amazing. For those who might be, don't be put off that it's listed as a "horror film." It's mostly a period film, with vampires, and that part his far from the whole film. The soundtrack, mostly Delta blues, is fantastic, with some Irish music in there, too. @Kieran :)
I saw it a few nights ago. It was fun. I liked the location down south near endless cotton fields. I think movie was more about the life than the music and dancing loving vampires (loved the Irish song part). Characters were good and the music too. They mixed a few genres and it blended well.

oh ffs! Friend of mine is telling me that in the new Fantastic Four the Silver Surfer is a woman? When will this shit END??? Even the wokies have to realise we've gone past the point of creativity into... laziness and indoctrination? I'm so fed up with this!

GetTF! Silver surfer was my favourite growing up. These Marvel films are being red flags, as in, avoid at all costs!

me too. I was a surfer and Thor fan. Love and Thunder was bad enough but this... It's not even original anymore. These aren't business people doing it. There's a generation of people in their peak earning years that grew up on this stuff and they're disrespecting their childhood. The purple haired nose ringed folks aren't going to get it or feel the passion. It makes zero sense

You know what these films remind me of - especially the Thor film featuring Jeff Goldblum dressed as Widow Twanky? I think it was Thor Anorak: they’re like the Adam West TV Batman from the sixties: camp as a row of tents, with lame modish humour, zero drama, and absolutely no regard at all for the source material.

Oh shit, they’re even worse than that, the Adam West Batman wasn't slavishly monotonous politically, too…

I loooved the new Fantastic Four , as a life long Marvel reader (+60 years) we finally have a movie version worthy of Marvel’s First Family. Yes I read the original FF Galactus/Silver Surfer trilogy story in their 12 cent original comic book version. Still weep when I remember how my mom threw away my original comics when I was away at college, but I digress….

Pedro Pascal is an amazing actor, in just 3 years he’s been in Eddington, The Mandalorian, TV’s “ The Last of Us” & the Materialist, as well as now the perfect Reed Richard’s. His last big scene had me in tears & everyone knows I have a heart of stone.

Ditto Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (Richards) and the interplay/chemistry with all 4 main characters is incredible. Enjoyed the clever usage of their four distinct powers. ( the 5th potential member’s powers I will not spoil)

The comic usage of one of their original foes, the MoleMan, is hilarious and that character actor they used is one of my faves.

Galactus is portrayed with the cosmic grandeur he deserves. Initially I would have preferred Norin Raad , the original Silver Surfer, but using his comic book girlfriend Shala Bal ( geeks like me know she was used as the Silver Surfer in an alternate universe/timeline) actually works well with the plot/narrative they were going for. It makes her epiphany that much more real and true to the spirit of the comic book story of SS/Galactus. It’s amazing how CGI has finally advanced to make the SS actually surf through space with her cosmic surfboard.

I’m a sucker for early ‘60s/midcentury modern/Jetsons aesthetics and this film gives me a whole world of it. Give me more!

Dare I say it? The film is fantastic. ( heheheh)

As to all you shrieking woke! Woke! Woke! The sky is falling!!, woke!woke! Woke! My panties are on fire!! first see the damn film before passing judgement.

ETA:

Also, finally a Jack Kirby quote in a Marvel movie.

Most folks are familiar with the late Stan Lee as the creative paterfamilias of so many of the iconic Marvel characters , but IMO the artist Jack Kirby contributed as much if not really so much more, his art drove those early plots.

I was going to ask.. is the actress any relation.. I agree Jack Kirby was the creative force. I think there are diminishing returns from these Marvel/DC franchise movies, so respectfully I'll pass. I've long since given up hoping that these things will actually be any good. Some of the early ones were great, but the last bunch I saw were trash, whether Marvel or DC. Fool me once shame on you... etc. In my personal opinion there's more than enough creativity from the actual comic book story lines, so it's a bit of a liberty for. script writers to presume to impose their ideas, so miss me with that.

On a happier note, finally watched F1 last night. I loved it! Now THAT was a movie!

Mrs Britbox took me along to see "Mr Burton" - a movie that looked into the early struggles of the actor we know as Richard Burton. From very humble beginnings to becoming one of Hollywood's biggest ever stars and twice spouse of Liz Taylor. This film focuses on the humble beginnings before he made it in the UK, let alone the US.

This won't be for everybody but I loved it. Excellent acting performances all around. There was a large part of the story that was new to me - namely the adoptive father. Coincidentally, I had watched an interview with Burton from the Dick Cavett show a few days earlier.

Fabulous actor, I'll watch out for that one, thanks. What a voice, too! I often put on this short clip of speech at a Frank Sinatra tribute. Unbeliebaly powerful orator...

Cavett is an excellent interviewer as well. Burton wasn't exactly easy to handle, although perhaps that was in his later years when he was hitting the bottle

He was excellent and I enjoy watching clips on YouTube. Here's Laurence Olivier discussing Marlon Brando, then being asked to "lay a little Milton" on the audience. What a moment this is, and it makes me wonder if this is possible nowadays, without the actor becoming ironic and cool and making a laugh of it all:

TBH , it seemed like Burton hit the bottle heavily during his entire career, but alas with age & wear/tear it finally started taking its toll.
