Since the procedure was initially banned until they determined if it would provide a performance-enhancement advantage, and then they decided that it didn't, I wouldn't worry about that too much. Otherwise, athletes are just asked to nail a moving target.

I don't mean to add fuel to the fire here but there is something unnatural about this kind of procedure. Taking a part of your body and modifying it in a lab to ensure you recover faster just seems ethically wrong even though it isn't illegal. And in the case of Rafa, did the treatment help his knee heal faster, or did it promote a type of healing that wouldn't have occurred without the treatment? Also, while we're on this kind of topic, I'm not sure how I feel about Novak sleeping in an egg to increase stamina.

It will enhance performance if they somehow get away with dodgy blood being put back in place of clean and the problem people have with this treatment is that it enables this loophole. No accusations being made but it can be used to mask and aid doping so in this respect that's likely why it was originally banned. No idea why they then legalized it tbh when they know the possibility is there to abuse it but there you go.

As a man of the law, I assure you, you can't punish someone retroactively for a rule that was implemented AFTER his act. As Kieran astutely points out, how could you claim Nadal is doping when as off today, what he's doing is a 100% legal? Even you should be able to stop the logic hole in your argument.
