The Beatles also recorded "Baby It’s You" for the radio programme Pop Go The Beatles on June 1, 1963.
It was officially released on the Live At The BBC album in 1994, and then as a single on March 20, 1995.

And interestingly , "I Call Your Name" - written by Lennon & McCartney was first recorded by Billy Kramer and the Dakotas on june 27, 1963. The song would be released as a B-side to "Bad To Me" (also written by Lennon and McCartney).

The Beatles recorded "
I Call Your Name" on March 1, 1964, at EMI Studios (Abbey Road) in London. It was recorded during a three-hour session, alongside "I'm Happy Just to Dance with You" and "Long Tall Sally". The song was released on the Long Tall Sally EP in the UK on June 19, 1964.

Capitol records in the states would include "I Call Your Name" on "The Second Album" released in April 1964.
The american label would alter some of the tracks and sequence on the Beatles albums up until 1966.

The U.S. Mix was ordinary, however (shoulda' stayed with the mono mix). Here's what it sounded like if you bought a copy in '64 -

The Fourmost - Hello Little Girl (1963)

The Beatles - Hello Little Girl ( Decca audition 1962 ; remained unreleased until 1995)

Songfacts®:

  • This song was written by John Lennon in 1957 and was performed at an audition at Decca Records on January 1, 1962. It is the first original Lennon song. >>
  • Lennon based this on songs that his mother used to sing to him.

  • The song was originally intended to be Merseybeat band Gerry & The Pacemakers follow-up to their hit "How Do You Do It." However Gerry Marsden and his crew instead went for "I Like It," so their fellow Liverpudlian combo The Fourmost grabbed it for their debut single. Released on 30 August 1963, it reached #9 on the UK singles chart.
