Five so far: Draper, Mensik, Ruud, Shelton, and Vacherot. Paris has a ways to go, so there's still a chance we'll get a sixth, though there are still 8 big title winners in it.

Last year, Popyrin was the only first time big title winner; In 2023, it was Rublev and Sinner. 2022 also had five: Fognini, Alcaraz, Carreno Busta, Coric, and Rune. Before that, you have to go back to 2001 to find a season with five new big title winners, and there were six (Ferrero, Pavel, Portas, Hewitt, Haas, and Grosjean).

From 1990 to 2025, there have been 92 new big title winners, or an average of 2.6 per year. From 2006 to 2016 there were no more than 2 a year, or 11 total, an average of 1 per year. From 1990 to 2005, there were 46, or 2.9 per year; from 2017 to 2025, there have been 25, or 2.8 per year. In other words, the norm is usually almost 3 per year, but the Big Four Era skewed that.

Oh, and for those thinking about Little Fonz, here's an important benchmark to consider, something every player with 5+ Slams in the Open Era shares: All won their first big title while 21 or younger (or before their 22nd birthday). Meaning, Fonz still has almost two years to win his first big title before we can think seriously about writing him off from greatness.
