It's all about cumulative effect. He played a lot of tennis this year already and recently a bunch of clay tournaments and did decent at last couple MS events. I assume he's playing a grass event next week so it is a lot of tennis going into Wimbledon, even for a 20 year old.

It’s a fine line players in his position have to walk. They have to play enough to get their rankings up so that their draws become easier by avoiding the top players more, which allows a better opportunity to gain more points at the bigger events, all while risking injury by playing so much. Basically, they have to play more in order to play less.

He climbed high enough very fast, so his ranking cannot get too much higher based on small 250/500 events
The focus should be the masters and slams going forward from points perspective.
The other aspect, more important in fact what is rarely mentioned on the threads us the technical or mental improvement.
For that also they need to play more to meet a variety of players. You cannot improve by sitting in the gym only.
You guys make it sound as all the players play just to chase points.

Garin choked. He served for the match at 5-4 in the decider. Then had a lead in the final TB that he eventually lost.

Garin was up 5:2 in the 3rd set. He served for the match 2 times, but failed to serve it out. In the last set TB he had a MP, but on Coric's serve.

Coric stats in bo3 sets matches this year:

22 matches played

W/L 12-2 when the match went to 3rd set
W/L 2-6 when the match ended in just 2 sets

This means that he is struggling a lot, but at the same time showing resilience and ability to come back. Last year he won in Halle against Fed, but in Wimbledon he had a tough 1st round draw, played Medvedev and got knocked out. He is showing promising play at the moment, hope he can take this tourney and add up some points (didn't play last year), because in Halle he has 500 to defend.

Thanks, @don_fabio: I didn't see the match, but now understanding what happened that's a shame for Garin. I just hadn't expected much from him on grass. Also interesting stats on Coric.

Coric trying to pull the same stuff again. Saved 2 match points on his serve in 3rd set and then broke Mannarino when the guy served for the match at 5:4. The match was stopped at 3:2 in 3rd set TB. French has a mini break. They will continue tomorrow, same as the other match where Thompson needs to finish off against Gasquet.

The interrupted plays were completed and in both SF the lower ranked player prevailed.
Mannarino upset Coric and Thompson upset Richard.
Two unseeded players will play for the championship.

The big difference between Mannarino and Thompson, is the number of finals they have disputed.
This will be the first final ever for Thompson while Mannarino is 5 times runner up.
The big question is can Adrian finally pull it off?

First-time winner either way. If FAA can pull off the win, we’ll have two first-time winners today.

I was pleased for him...didn't realize he'd had such good results on grass.

Yay! Former temporary pinup doll wins his first title. Great job as he's been struggling.
