I thought once Sofia gets an event, Grigor will participate, because is in his home land plus he could use a small event to get his confidence by winning it and the points earned would help him to get moving up again. I am really disappointed in him and is not for the first time.

Yeah, surprising... You'd think he'd support the tournament. Was there any reason given?

Erhan Oral, the Tournament Director of the Garanti Koza Sofia Open, is looking forward to a successful week at the inaugural edition.

What does it take to organise a tournament? Put simply, a lot of hard work.

That's exactly what the officials of the Bulgarian Tennis Federation, in partnership with land development company Garanti Koza, have undertaken ever since the 7 October 2015 announcement that Sofia would host an ATP World Tour tournament.

This week, Bulgaria celebrates the return of top-flight tournament tennis since two events on the 1980 and 1981 Grand Prix circuits. The nation is one of the 32 countries represented on the 2016 ATP World Tour calendar.

Erhan Oral, the Tournament Director of the Garanti Koza Sofia Open, is hopeful that after a successful first edition, more ATP World Tour players will make the trip to Bulgaria's capital city.

"Sofia is a very accessible city," Oral told ATPWorldTour.com. "I know how difficult it is for players to travel to different cities around the world. But in Sofia everything is very close, so it is very convenient for the players.

Unfortunately, Chung lost easily in 2 sets. These are the opportunities youngsters need to take in order to advance. Copil was a qualifier so his ranking is worse than Chung's. Well we'll se soon enough what he is made of.

Yes disappointing. Copil has a good serve and Chung not so, still, these are the matches you need to start winning. He will play Rotterdam next.

OK, I'm detecting a pattern here. I was trying to be generous with Coric, but you are right: these young guys need to step up, and not lose to nobodies and old guys. That's why they play these events where they don't have to face the top competition. *sigh* They're still very young. And at least Zverev beat Cilic in Montpellier.
